Fiddleford appreciation month Day 3
This ones based on some head canons by @danvssomethingorother such as junior being a dog of hell hound species and that in the parallel dimension after a long while Stan and Ford have settled things out. Also trans Fidd because why not>> implied trans male pregnancy.
The night was calm and peaceful, moonlight was streaming in through the blinds of their bedroom. Stanford and Fiddleford were sleeping side by side but not as serenely as one would think. Fiddleford's face had contorted into a frown and he began to jostle in his sleep. He made small whimpers of distress as his eyes began to water. Ford awoke to the strange sounds and sat over Fidd's body. "Fiddleford..." he whispered quietly and gently shook his shoulder.
Fiddleford burst to life, sitting bolt upright. Flinging the covers off of him and making ford jump back in surprise. "TATE!" He screamed and clawed out in front of him before noticing were he was. "Fidd.." Ford's quiet whisper came from behind him, making him turn to see Stanford's face. Tears still rolling down his face, his breathing started to speed up once again. His hiccuped breaths warned Stanford he was about to have panic attack. Ford instantly pulled him in for a hug. The frail man latched onto him and tried hard to control his breathing. Ford stroked his head and quietly held him, wearily glancing up at the toddlers cot across the room. Luckily Tate was still alseep. Stanford cradled him in his arms as he regained his breathing and his shaking ceased. Fiddleford gripped onto Ford's shoulder, letting the tears flow freely down his cheeks. He hiccuped and snivelled as he calmed down. Stanford sat beside him and held him closely to his chest.
After a while of just calming down Ford loosened his hold on Fiddleford and let him sit up by himself. Fidd wiped his tear stained cheeks and smiled at Ford. "What was it about this time, dear?" Stanford asked, patting him on the shoulder. Fidd shivered as his mind remembered his awful nightmare. "Bill, he-he he had Tate. An-and I tried to-to stop it b-but...I...I-I" "Okay, I understand, it's all fine. I'm here, Tate is in his cot. You are safe, he's safe, were all safe, okay?" Stanford informed before pecking him on the cheek. Fidd smiled weakly, peering over to Tate's cot. He saw his little chest rise and fall in his slumber. It's amazing how he didn't wake up after Fidd's panic attack. He felt Ford's large six-fingered hand stroke his back for reassurance. The southerner let out a small sigh of content before relaxing and laying back onto the mattress. "Feel better?" Stanford asked and brushed some hair out of Fidd's face. "Yes, thank ya honey" he smiled and kissed Ford on the lips. "Goodnight" "Goodnight"
Stanford watched silently as his partner settled back into a peaceful slumber. He watched his chest rise and fall, listened to his content breathing and smiled at how happy he looked but something nagged at Stanford. Fidd was getting much better at remembering and dealing with his anxiety, especially during the pregnancy but maybe their was some other way to help Fidd feel more at ease. The thought swirled in his mind for a while before he came up with an idea. Apparently dogs were great at helping deal with mental disorders. Would Fidd want a dog? Maybe a small one so it wouldn't be too much of a hassle. Where would he get a dog from? Stanley would probably know someone, yeah. Happy with his plan he settled down and slept next to his husband.
The morning appeared almost to quickly and before he knew it Stanford was cooking breakfast for his partner and Fidd was bottle feeding their small child at the dinning table. Stanford went over the plans he made last night in his mind before realising he was burning the eggs. The oil sizzled and popped until some splashed on his fingers. He jumped back in surprise, making Fidd look up at him. "Son of a -" "Stanford!"
Ford glanced over at his husband who was giving him a look that could kill. Fidd glared at him before flicking his eyes down at the child in his arms and back up to Stanford. Ford gave a small, apologetic look toward his husband before caring for the still burning eggs. Fidd rolled his eyes and focused on the small bundle in his arms.
Tate was reaching out for the bottle that was taken from him. Fidd smiled down at him and gently eased the nipple of the bottle back into his mouth. Watching with joy as he grasped hold of the bottle with both of his little hands. He was such a clever little one. Fiddleford fussed and cooed at him in a soft voice. "There you go, Fidd" Ford stated as he placed the slightly burnt breakfast on the table before him. Fiddleford looked up to see Ford standing over him, admiring their son. "You best get going to the institute or you'll be late" Fiddleford stated as he got up and held Tate on his shoulder. Stanford looked up at the clock to see it was half eight. Usually he'd go in earlier but since Tate arrived he's been staying a little later in the mornings. "Oh yes...I will see you this evening, I think Stanley may be coming up tonight as well" he stated whilst putting on his coat. "Okay and please don't get caught on fire again" he chuckled as he patted Tate on the back, waiting for him to burp. "I'll try not to" Ford smiled as he closed the gap between them and pecked him in the cheek. "Bye" "Bye darlin',"
It was nearing half six in the evening, the sun was was just beginning to set behind the horizon. Fiddleford sat at the dinning room table, wiring some circuits together for his new invention. Even though he stayed home to care for Tate it didn't mean he couldn't work still. Speaking of Tate, the small child was sleeping contently in his cot. Fidd was happily soldering away, the baby monitor always within ear shot of his work, until he heard a knock at the front door. It sounded like big fists trying to be as careful as possible to knock on the oak door, must be Stanley. Fiddleford turned off the soldering iron and got up from his desk to answer the door.
As he approached the front door he swore he heard impatient shuffling and Stan telling someone to 'shut up' or 'stop!'. Who on earth could he be talking too? Fiddleford shrugged it off as nothing and twisted the doorknob.
He was knocked over by the shear force of the door opening as something large pushed into the house. Some giant creature was sitting on top of him. It was massive, hairy and very heavy. Fiddleford struggled to keep the mystery creature from licking his face, giving small groans as he shielded himself. "Ahh! Fidd! Sorry! Sorry!" Stanley's apologetic cries came from above him before prising the massive creature off of his thin body. As the weight was lifted from his chest Fidd finally got a clear look on the creature that had just landed on him. It was a dog. A massive dog. It looked like a black Alsatian but it had red marks under its eyes and along its fur. It's massive tongue was lolling out of its mouth whilst panting by Stan's feet. "Umm...surprise!" Stan cheered as he helped Fidd to his feet, extending a hand out for him. "What?.." Fidd asked as he got to his feet and dusted himself off, eyes focused on the dog. "Didn't Ford say-" "Fidd! I'm home! I brought some more solder for- holy Moses! What is that!?" Stanford interrupted as he entered the house, exclaiming in surprise of the giant canine in his house. Stan looked at him in confusion. "What? you said get a dog!" Stanley argued as he turned toward his twin. Fiddleford looked up at his husband quizzically. Wait Ford wanted to get him a dog? "Yes a dog! Like a little chihuahua or something not a fucking bear!" Stanford exclaimed, pointing down at the dog, which was now lying comfortably on the floor. Fiddleford smiled at him. He was kinda cute, one ear flopped whilst the other stayed poised, that was sweet and he is really fluffy. Before Fiddleford knew it he was kneeling beside the dog and gently stroking his slightly knotted fur. It was so soft and really warm. The more he stroked the more he sensed to relax and tune out of the conflict happening above him.
Stanford and Stanley were still bickering in the doorway about the dog well after Fidd had sunk down to the floor. "Go take it back and get something smaller! What were you thinking getting something of this size! What about Tate!" Stanford shrieked at his twin. Stan made a slightly guilty frown and looked away from his brother. "Well the thing is...I can't really return it" he mumbled, not daring to look at his brothers gaze but he could still feel it burning into the back of his neck. "What do you- you bought it from a guy in a van didn't you!" Ford crossed his arms in disapproval and watched Stan squirm under his guilt. "Well I wouldn't call it a van...more like a truck" he grinned slightly at his brother. Ford's glare didn't falter, he is definitely going to perfect the disappointed dad glare by the time Tate is old enough to cause trouble. "Well... go take it to the pound or something" Ford suggested in an angry tone, throwing his arms into the air. Fiddleford finally caught wind of what was happening above him and stood up to protest. "That's a bit harsh don't you think?" Fidd asked in a soft tone, somehow deflating the anger in the conversation.
Stanford looked at the pleading expression in his face, he knew what that meant. In the few minutes of him just befriending the animal he has gotten attached. Ford knew he was now fighting a loosing battle. "Well Fidd, that thing is massive! Think of what it could do to Tate if it got out of control!" Ford questioned. The thought ran across Fiddleford's mind, Ford was right. They've got a baby to care for and even though Tate is a rather easy child this dog could be a bit of a handful. Then again it would be nice company whilst working at home. The dog whined and whimpered below them, pulling Fidd from his thoughts. The creature was pulling against the lead with great force and suddenly he was free from Stan's grip. They all suddenly went into a state of panic as it disappeared down the hall. Together they rushed after the giant animal as it moved deeper into the house.
The dog seemed to know where it was going, weaving through the corridors, ears locked on a faint noise. The three men chased after it, Stan trying to call after it, Ford was desperately trying to reach it before it finds Tate's room and Fiddleford just silently followed the group, watching as the dog as it turned toward their bedroom. The dog pushed its way past the door and into the room. Suddenly Tate gave a high pitched squeal. The trio panicked and clambered over each other in a hurry to get to Tate.
Fiddleford was first in the room, pausing in the door way as he saw the surprisingly placid scene before him. Stanford barged in next, fists balled ready to fight but also stopped dead in his tracks when he saw what Fiddleford was also witnessing. Stanley appeared behind from the door behind them, also looking ready for a fight. He was a very protective uncle after all. "Why've we stopped-" "Shhh!" Ford and Fidd silenced him before looking back at the dog and the child.
Tate sitting in his crib, feet dangling out of the bars. He was happily smiling and giggling at the dog staring back at him. Fidd and ford couldn't believe it. They were standing side by side. Ford's jaw slightly open in surprise. They watched silently as Tate interacted with the gentle giant. Fidd's face contorted into a sympathetic stare at Ford. Silently pleading to keep the dog. Stanford tried hard to ignore his wide eyes and stay strong. Fiddleford, sensing his husband was going to be a grudge, walked over to his son's crib and scooped Tate up into his arms. The twins just watched, slightly confused, in the doorway. Stan giving was smirking as he watched Fiddleford put Ford in his place.
Fidd was now sitting on the floor, Tate in his arms and the dog sniffing Tate's pudgy face. "Ford look, Tate likes him" Fidd smiled up at his partner, one hand secured Tate in his lap and the other was combing through the dogs fur. "But Fidd don't you want a smaller dog?" Ford asked stepping further into the room. "Mmmm...nope" he smiled "Ford just come here" he patted the floor beside him. Stanford sighed and complied with his husband's order.
Stanley chuckled as he watched his brother sit beside Fiddleford. The taller man then handed Tate to Stanford and watched with a smile as the dog trotted around them to sit by Tate once again. Fiddleford hummed at the adorable scene the just played out before him. "So what'cha gunna call him?" Stanley asked from the doorway. Ford gave him an angry glare to which Stan replied with smile and thumbs up. "Hmmm...Ford junior" Fidd concluded to himself. "What? Why?" Ford asked. "Cause his fur is soft like yer hair" he giggled and ruffled his fingers through Stanford's hair before quickly pecking him in the lips. "Ugh, you could have told me you too were going to be all mushy, I would have left" Stan whined in the door way, making fake gagging noises. His fake disgust made Tate giggle in Ford's lap, Ford junior then licked the toddlers face, resulting in Tate to giggle even harder. Fiddleford laughed at his son's cheer and looked at Ford with pleading eyes. "Fine we can keep him but can we call him Junior, because Ford Jr is just going to get confusing" Stanford stated. Fidd smiled at him before placing a kiss on his cheek and entangling his five fingers on Ford's six. "Thank ya honey"
They stared down at Tate and Jr carefully interacting. Watching The dog tolerate Tate pulling at his fur and patting his nose. It was quite a peaceful and happy family sight that was until Jr began to hiccup and spat out some fire onto the carpet. Ford and Fidd jumped to their feet, Stanford had Tate in his arms and Fidd rushed to put out the small flames. Once Fiddleford had patted out the fire they both looked up at stan who was sheepishly smiling in the doorway. "So yeah....I'm gunna go, enjoy your dog, bye" he said quickly before darting out of door and down the hall. Stanford then handed Tate to Fidd and knelt down to be eye level with the dog. "So do ya think he's gunna fit in?" Fiddleford asked over Ford's shoulder. Stanford was beaming at Jr, who was now cleaning his fur. "Perfectly".
So do u guys remember parallel fiddleford from fords entries in journal 3? Yeah.....(*´∀`)
( ・-・)
Since this was 30 yrs later it just means he aged so gracefully- UGH i cant stop thinking about them, stan took the journals to somewhere far awayy and Pford and Pfidds reconciled and they made their lab into a huge international thing and conduct experiments together and Pford is recognised by everyone for his research
And Pfidds is so understanding and helpful when ford asks for help-
I am not normal abt them ( ´ー`)
Fiddleford appreciation month Day 4
Fidd takes Tate to work and the course of the day goes slightly off course. Also Implied fiddauthor aswell as trans Fidd again!
The morning was peaceful, birds chirped and the sun peeked through the blinds illuminating Fiddleford who was deep in his slumber. He was peacefully sleeping, his chest rising and falling with ease. Junior was sleeping on the end of the bed, keeping Fidd's feet warm with his exothermic fur.
Beep beep beep!
The blaring scream from his alarm woke him. He lazily opened his eyes and groaned as he sat up to turn off the alarm. Fiddleford rubbed the crusted sleep from his eyes and turned to face the empty space beside him. Stanford had been on a business trip across the dimensions to try and get more planning permission for another portal. "Two more days" he whispered to himself as he flung the covers off of him. He was about to stand up but the door creaked open. He turned to see Tate was in the door way, he was already dressed. That was odd. "Tate, you all right darlin'?" He asked in a rather confused tone, usually he had to drag Tate out of bed to get him ready for school. Tate nodded and walked over to the bed. Junior lifted his head and shuffled up the bed to greet Tate. "You said you'd take me to work with you today" Tate stated as he clambered onto the bed next to Fiddleford. "I did?" He questioned, looking down at Tate's disappointed gaze. "I mean..I did didn't I" he smiled and ruffled Tate's hair. The small child grinned and jumped off of the bed, pulling Fidd's wrist to get him out of bed faster. "Come on paaaa!" Tate moaned as he struggled to pull him from the bed. Fidd rolled his eyes as he followed after Tate. "I'm coming, I'm coming" he chuckled.
Tate and Fidd were sitting at Fiddleford's desk in his office. Tate was swinging around on Fiddleford's swivel chair as his father talked on the phone to his secretary. Tate gave a sigh of boredom and stopped spinning in his chair. "Paaaaa I thought you said we'd go see all the robots" he groaned and pulled on his father's lab coat. Fiddleford nodded along to the conversation on the other line "okay...I'll be down in two minutes, thank you Johnathan" he confirmed before hanging up the phone. Fiddleford looked down to see Tate angrily glaring up at him. "Tater tot" he bent down to be eye level with the boy "I gotta go sign some papers for your father's department, stay here. I promise I will be right back just please do not touch anything, okay?" said Fiddleford as he picked Tate up and sat him down on the swivel chair. "But paaa when are we going to see-" "I promise I will take you to see the robots just please stay here and play with your action figures, I will be back before you know it" he handed Tate his Spider-Man figurine and patted him on the head. "Okay pa" "Good boy, now stay here" he smiled before jetting out of the door and down the stairs.
As the minutes past Tate became bored with his toy and looked around his fathers office. This place was really boring. Didn't Pa say he built robots and helped dad catch monsters? Then why was his office so boring? There were no robots or monsters just drawings and math, eww maths. Tate huffed in annoyance, speaking of pa where was he? Didn't he say he'd be back in two minutes but it's been like eleventy million minutes. He was never gunna see those robots. Might as well take himself to see them since pa is never gunna get here. Yeah, why doesn't he take himself. I'm sure they walked past the cool lab when they came up to pa's boring office. Then it's settled.
Tate climbed off of the chair and walked over to the door, Spider-Man figure in hand. His small hand twisted the door knob and he was free.
Fiddleford returned as fast as he possibly could to get to Tate, dodging employees with questions and demands. As he reached the top of the stairs he knew something wasn't right because his office door was open. His heart sank and his mind panicked. Fiddleford rushed into the room to find it empty. "Tate?" He called out. No answer. "Ok Tate, funs over" he stated as he searched under the desk. Empty. "Tatum Nikola Mcgucket-Pines! Get out here this instant!" He yelled. Nothing.
That's when he really panicked.
His heart rate sped, palms became sweaty and his breathing was erratic. Where was his son? Oh god where could he be? This place is too dangerous for him to be alone! What was I thinking letting him stay here unsupervised?
"Hey there's a kid in here!"
Fidd pulled his head up to hear confused murmuring from the platform below him. He waisted no time jetting down the stairs to the lab just under his feet. Twice he almost tripped over himself as he descended to stair case. The murmurs becoming louder as he neared the lab. His panic slowly disappearing and hopefulness filled his heart. Inside the lab he came to a sudden halt. Tate was sitting on the floor in total awe of a robot that was the size of a garbage truck. His heart nearly stopped, he was dangerously close to that contraption. "Tate!" Fiddleford yelled as he darted toward his son. Tate turned to the sound of his name and saw his father running toward him. Engineer's that were conducting experiments stopped and watched the somewhat heroic scene before them unfold. It was almost like watching in slow motion as he ran toward Tate. However, Tate has never been one to clean up his toys and had lazily left his Spider-Man action figure on the floor, directly in Fidd's stride. The moment he saw it go underfoot he knew he was done for. His left foot almost cartoonishly slipped on the toy, causing him to fall forward onto the white marble floor. His hands out in front of him, preparing for impact. The whole lab gasped and held their breath as he tumbled. Fiddleford then did an (as elegant as possible) front roll which caused him to roll right in front of Tate. The whole lab was literally frozen with shock. Fiddleford then grabbed Tate and stood up. He cleared his throat before addressing the room. "That is why we do not run in the lab and why we do not leave equipment on the floor!" He stated to everyone before walking over to the stairs, toward his office. Picking up the toy from the floor as he went.
Tate crumpled in Fidd's arms. He could tell his father was angry with him. The child remained silent and looked down at his hands the whole trip back to the office. Fiddleford also remained silent, thinking out what to say to Tate. Sure he was angry but he was also relived and Stanford was sure to be angry at both of them when he finds out. So maybe he should go a little easy on him now.
Fiddleford opened the door and sat him down on the chair much to his arms relief, he was getting heavy now. Tate refused to look up at his father who was leaning over the desk looking down at him. "Tate..." Fidd said in a calm tone. He didn't answer and just curled in on himself a little more. "Tate please look at me" Fidd demanded softly. The child lifted his head up to meet his fathers gaze. "You're mad at me" he stated, his voice cracking slightly with the tears that were beginning to form in his eyes. Fidd gave out a long exhale. "I'm not mad Tate, just- well a little but I'm more disappointed that you went against my word and went outside, do you know how dangerous it is in that lab, heck your father nearly sets fire to himself eight times a week" his volume grew slightly but tried to remain non-threatening. Tate curled up a little at the sudden increase of volume. "Look Tate I'm just saying this because I love you, I don't know what I would do if anything happened to you and what would your farther say?" He asked and walked around the desk to sit on the table before him. Tate looked him in the eye before letting a few tears dribble down his cheeks. "I'm sorry pa!" He cried and leapt into Fiddleford's arms. "Okay, okay, I know ya are but please just listen to what I say next time, okay?" Fidd whispered as he stroked Tate's back, comforting his son. "Okay" he snivelled into Fidd's shoulder and dried his tears. "Do ya wanna go see the robots now?" He smiled at his son. "Uh huh" he whimpered and wiped his nose with the back of his hand. "Okay then" he smiled and placed Tate on the floor. Hand in hand they walked out of the office and back down to the lab to enjoy the rest of the day.
Fiddleford appreciation month Day 5
Though it might cross some realities, so Rick drags him and Ford to a dingy store in a distant galaxy and he makes new friends (wander & Sylvia) but things get ugly. Also stanchez.
The buzzing of the convenience store filled the air, a cold chill of a broken freezer drifted through the shop and the alien tongues of native creatures echoed through the air. This shop just gave Fiddleford a weird vibe. Why did he let Stanley and Rick talk him and Ford into going shopping in this rather illegitimate establishment. He looked down at the bizarre cans of food and drink. "Thunderblazz?" He questioned at himself in a disgusted tone. He wandered further down the isle, there was such a mismatch of items. "Rocket fuel...super socket wrench, is this a store or mechanics?" He listed to himself. "What the pr-problem fiddlesticks, th-this store a-ain't good enough for y-you" a familiar drunk stuttering came from behind him. He turned to see Rick standing behind him holding some blue crystals. He couldn't quite tell if they looked legal or not. "No and please don't call me that" he stated. "Good cause y-you're boyfriend sure l-loves the place, ha-hasn't stopped-stopped writing d-down notes almost l-like he-he's high or some-something" he stuttered and punctuated his sentence with a burp and a swig from his flask. "He's not my boyfriend and this place just gives me some off feelings" he stated in a fierce tone. "Oh that's normal, it's a side effect from using the portal gun" he stated in a relaxed tone. "What?" Fiddleford exclaimed in a hush tone. "Sorry g-gotta go, L-Lee's calling" he waved before dashing down the isle.
Fiddleford just stored that thought in the back of his head before resuming with looking at the odd items for sale. "Blorp berry strudel, triple pickle pie, hmm sounds good" he shrugged. "Sure is" a small southern sounding voice came from next to him. Fiddleford looked down to see a small fuzzy, spoon shaped alien with a large green hat was standing next to him. "Howdy! Folks call me wander and I really like your hair. What's your name?" He asked with a friendly grin. Fiddleford stared down at him, somehow this little alien seemed friendly enough. "Oh, howdy, my name is Fiddleford and thanks for the compliment, wander is it?" He asked with a smile whilst adjusting his spectacles. "Yeah, well that's not really my name but that's kind of a long story and Sylvia says I should stop boring people with long stories" he chuckled. "Sylvia?" He questioned. "Oh yeah, where are my manners? she should be around here somewhere buying Orble juice" Wander smiled before getting on his tiptoes to try and look over the shelves but he was a bit too short. Fiddleford turned to see for him. There were many strange creatures in the neighbouring isles. "Is she a... green elephant person?" "Nope, what's an elephant?" "What about a rock person?" "That's not her" "Big skeleton with lot of little eyeball guys?" "Hater!" "Who?" Fidd looked down at the bright eyed little guy. Suddenly Fiddleford noticed a giant blue horse like creature heading straight toward him. Fiddleford stilled and closed in anticipation of the alien ramming into him. "Wander we gotta get out of here" a hushed female voice came from in front of him. He opened his eyes to see the giant horse creature, possible Sylvia, conversing with his orange friend. "Why? Hater and mr peepers just got here!" He whined. "Exactly! That's why we gotta go!" Sylvia exclaimed in a hushed tone. Fiddleford looked at them in a puzzled gaze. "Okay" wander pouted and jumped onto her back. "Bye Fiddleford, sure was nice meeting ya, see ya 'round" he waved goodbye as they quietly snuck down the isle as quietly as possible. "Bye" Fidd whispered with a wave.
Suddenly a monstrous roar of anger came from the skeleton man as he set eyes on wander. Fiddleford shook at the volume of his voice, as did the rest of the shop. Beams of green lightning shot forth and before Fiddleford knew it the whole shop was a battlefield. Lasers of every colour came from every direction. Fiddleford ducked down under the cover of the isle, hoping they'd just get out of here alive.
At that moment he looked up to see Rick and Stan rushing toward him, dragging Ford behind them. Rick was pulling the portal gun from his coat pocket as he handed Stan a futuristic gun. "C-come on nerd we gotta go!"said Rick as he set the coordinates into his portal gun. "But you haven't paid yet" Fidd stated in a hushed tone, even though he was in the middle of an intergalactic brawl he still had a strong moral code. "So?" Rick questioned as he stepped through the swirling green vortex. Fiddleford just sighed and followed behind the other men. At least they got out of there alive.

Fiddleford appreciation month Day 8
The air was filled with the constant chattering of camera shutters and the murmur of impatient journalists, hungry for a story. Fiddleford looked up from where he stood at the side of the stage and saw his best friend answering and retorting questions from the crowd a few Feet below him. The lights were almost too intense as they shone upon him, their monotone buzz droning softly. Fiddleford looked up at the ceiling, the architects did an amazing job with his plans, he should remember to put in a good review for them.
Suddenly the crowd chuckled along as a collective mass as Stanford answered a question with a smart comment. Well of course it would have been smart, he was Stanford Pines, the man who cracked inter-dimensional travel. Fidd smiled gently at the thought of how their friendship from that two bit college to being two of the most respected men in science and even more. How they have been through hell and back (literally) to stand out on top, still best friends and a bond stronger than anything.
Suddenly the sound of chairs scratching against the floor brought him out of his thoughts and back into reality. He glanced up to see Ford coming over to him with that confident grin he always wore when he'd achieved an award, or made a break through or scrambled his cubics cube or-or won a game of cludo.
Stanford stood before him, that grin on his face before linking arms with him and continuing down to the limousine that wait just beyond the doors. How very lucky indeed he was to be living this life of joy, be married to the man he loved, raise his son in a loving environment and finally be able to afford a house with a screen door that wasn't broken. Oh, what a lucky man he was for the universe to smile upon him for he knew that other realities of which he inhabited weren't nearly so fortunate.
Fiddleford appreciation month day 1.
Fiddleford never at any moment thought that this was how his day would plan out.
When in Fiddleford woke up in the morning, brushed his teeth, got dressed and dropped his son off at school, not once did he picture his day being spent lurking the halls of the institute, along side his husband, water pistol in hand as they tried to find an escaped experiment.
It all started like this. He and Stanford walked in to the institute, feeling pretty content with how the morning had gone. They shared a small kiss on the cheek before walking down different hallways, their shoes clacking against the tiled floor. Stanford went to his office in the left wing of the building and Fiddleford went down to the lab in the right wing of the building.
He was greeted cheerfully by his co-workers and newly starting apprentice's. The smell of solder burning filled his nostrils as he settled down at his work station and looked over some of his blue prints. As he unfurled a fairly new print for a robot that helps cook, his arm accidentally knocked down a photo frame. Fidd flinched slightly at the sudden clack of plastic against his desk before picking it up. He smiled at the photo of him and Tate. It was taken on one of their fishing trips together down at the lake. "Sir?" A male voice asked from behind him, making him startle as he was pulled abruptly from his thoughts.
Fidd turned around to see his assistant, Henry, standing behind him holding a cup of coffee. "Your coffee, sir" Henry stated, handing him the tall cup. "Oh thank you Henry" he smiled before taking the cup with both hands. He turned in his chair and placed the cup on his desk before taking hold of his blue prints once again. "What's for today's agenda then, sir?" Henry asked tentatively, getting out his note pad waiting for some tasks. "Well I was thinkin' that—" Fiddleford was stopped mid sentence by an ear piercing alarm that rang through out the institute. All the engineers looked up from their work in slight puzzlement. Fiddleford adjusted his glasses before standing up and pushing Henry aside.
A swarm of puzzled workers gathered around him. "Sir, what's going on?" "There wasn't a drill scheduled today, was there?" "This isn't the fire alarm" "Sir what do we do?" Many voices asked many questions, most to which Fiddleford couldn't answer. His knee began to bounce with anxiety as the crowd of questions began to grow bigger and bigger.
Suddenly Stanford burst into the room, followed by a group of many workers. He ploughed through the crowd to the centre. Before Fiddleford could really tell who had grabbed his wrist Ford had pulled him to one side. "Stanford what's happening?" Fiddleford asked in a hushed tone. "It appears that one of the experiments has escaped" Ford whispered. "What? Which one?" He quietly exclaimed. Ford put a finger to his lips to shush him before speaking. "A scamp fire, only small. It shouldn't be a problem as long as it doesn't set anything on fire" Ford stated as he turned toward the large mass of scientists and engineers before them. "What's happening sir?" A young girl asked from the front of the crowd. "Right....it is unpleasant to inform that a small experiment has escaped. If you will please form orderly groups to help round up the creature, just as your training prepared you for" Stanford informed the group and in seconds they obeyed the order and grouped themselves into masses of fours. "Sir....what experiment is it?" An engineer asked his boss. Ford turned his attention to the young man who was in a larger group. "Oh a scampfire, a creature that disguises itself as fire, look near warm places. That's were it likes to hide....we good? Now spread out and search" Stanford ordered to his employees before the groups dispersed into the halls in search for the creature.
Fiddleford and Stanford were soon left alone in the large engineering lab. "What are we going to do, dear?" Fiddleford asked, putting a hand on Ford's shoulder, turning him around to face him. "We're going together. Grab what ever you can find to dowse a fire" Stanford informed. Fidd nodded before rushing over to his desk and returning with two water pistols.
Stanford gave a confused expression as he took hold of the plastic gun. "Why are these in you desk?" Ford asked as he looked over the weapon. "For Tate's birthday" he justified. "Ahh" Ford nodded and swished the gun from side to side. There was water in there. "When did you-" "The sink" "You were gone for like two seconds" "I work fast, now can we please get going? I want to catch this thing before it burns down the entire institute" Fidd stated before firmly grasping his water pistol and marching down a hall way. Ford soon followed behind his husband in quick pursuit.
They searched for hours. The annoying beep still echoing through the halls as the creature went unfound. Fiddleford and Stanford were stalking the halls, water pistols in hand and poised in an attack position. Other search groups passed them every so often, explaining how they haven't found the creature yet before moving along.
Fiddleford and Stanford moved all the way to the eastern wing of the building, scouting down halls for ages until they heard it. A small scuttling sound accompanied by the sound of the cracking and popping of a fire. "Wait.." Ford whispered as he stopped at the mouth of another hallway. They both peered down it, there was a small orange glow coming from behind the printer that was sitting in the corridor. They both slowly creeped down the hall side by side. Water pistols ready to dowse the flames of the scampfire. As they grew closer to the source of the light, the cracking of fire grew louder.
Soon they were standing right by the printer. The escaped creature was just mere feet away from them. A small waft of burning pine drifted in the air, Stanford was about to take a step forward and pounce on the beast but his nose began to burn at the strong smell. It burned so bad. It was almost like he needed to sneeze. He took in sharp breaths, trying his best not to make a sound. Fiddleford saw were this was going, Stanford was the loudest sneezer he had ever met. If he sneezed now the scampfire would surely make a break for it.
So Fiddleford did what he had to do. In one hand he held his pistol, he firmly placed the other on the printer and leapt over the machine. The sheer brilliance of his execution was enough to make Stanford stare in awe. He truly was the luckiest man ever to be able to call Fiddleford his husband.
The scampfire didn't even see it coming. It was all a blur. One minute it was sitting there, minding its own business, happily burning away. Then suddenly this man leaps onto it with the finesse of a gazelle, completely stunning it before getting sprayed with water.
The scampfire made a shrill squeak as the spray sizzled against its flames. Fiddleford kept firing until it was just a small flame quietly whimpering. Fiddleford let out heavy breaths as he ceased fire. The creature tried to make a quick escape but was stopped by Fiddleford's foot standing on I one of its log legs. Fidd basked in the glow of his accomplishment before feeling a warmth grow up his leg.
He peered down to the bottom of his lab cot to see the small flames licking at his clothes as they began to grow bigger. "Ahh" he gasped before shedding himself of his coat. He then stomped on his burning coat with his free foot, destroying the flames before they devoured his coat whole. Two large arms then hugged around his shoulders and a small kiss was planted in his cheek. "Oh man! I've missed going on missions with you!" Stanford cheered as he hugged him tighter. Fiddleford smiled warmly before applying more pressure onto the scampfire's leg as it tried to escape his grasp. "I missed it too" he replied before they untangled themselves. Ford then whipped out a walkey talky from his pocket. "Johnathan, we've found it. Hall 61, sector 8, bring the containment gear" he ordered before hanging up.
He and Stanford stood there alone for about ten minutes before a group of ten employees with the containment gear arrived. They were extremely efficient with the containment. Applying a wet blanket, collecting it up with a fire poker before butting it into a glass container.
After the whole incident had passed everyone had gone back to there stations. Resuming with their work and carry on with their day. Fiddleford sat down at his desk and looked over his plans. Man, that's not how he thought he day was going to plan out.
Fiddleford appreciation month
Day 2.
Discoveries were made but at what cost.
This wasn't the plan, not at all. It was just supposed to be one simple dimension hop to retrieve some supplies but no, things always had to go wrong.
It started like this.
Fiddleford and a team of his top researchers were going on a simple mission to a parallel dimension to retrieve some supplies. His team were hand chosen. Five people, three men and two women. The best his department had offer. Usually Stanford would come along with him but he was in a rather important meeting and Fiddleford was confident he could handle the trip.
He and his team were walking down the road when one of his members got distracted and strayed from the group. Fiddleford noticed his absence and looked up to see him crew member walking toward someone familiar. Fiddleford squinted to get a better look at the mystery person that had caught his attention. The cogs in his mind where clicking and whirling to figure out this persons identity. The mystery figure turned slightly and locked eyes with the crew member. Fiddleford's eyes widened, it was the same person. He began to philosophise what would happen it two identical people of a different plane of existence collided. Calculations and theories entered and exited his mind in the few minutes he was given before the men began to reach out for each other. Fearing the worst Fiddleford called out to stop the man but he was too late. Their fingered seemed to have fused together at the contact. The universe began to crackle and whirl. Fiddleford began to panic, he was in an unfamiliar situation, he was uncertain as to why and what was going to happen. No. He wasn't going to panic. He was going to keep his crew safe and return home to his family. He took charge of the situation and analysed his surroundings.
During his mini panic the identical men had began to blur, stuck in a frozen stance and looked like they were on the verge of disappearing all together. Near by buildings were beginning to fold in on themselves, blurring like a fading picture. This world was collapsing. It was was going to fall and trap them in it. His mind began to race to construct a plan. His team members were panicking now, yelling at Fiddleford for a solution. He ignored them to think of a plan. Once he was slightly confident in a solution he pulled out a prototype machine he called a portal gun from his lab coat. He had the idea for it when Stanley's boyfriend got drunk and started blabbing about it to him.
Fiddleford hadn't really gotten the chance to test it yet but no time like the present. He entered the coordinates as fast as he could and pointed it as the most solid surface he could find. A green circle appeared on the surface, swirling around as it ripped a hole in the fabric of space. "Go!" He screamed at his remaining team members. They all followed his orders and all hesitantly jumped through the portal. One by one he watched them leap into the unknown, hopefully to the right dimension. As the last person jumped through the portal he looked back at his lost member. Standing in the frozen gaze of this identical counterpart. The world was now making a loud hissing noise.
Now here he was, standing in a collapsing universe, watching a man he had picked to come on this mission fading out of existence. This man had a family. A family. Wait he had a family. Stanford, Tate and Stanley. He needed to get to his family. How would Stanford feel? Or How would Tate feel growing up with out his father. He swallowed hard and tried to stop the tears from forming in his eyes and focused back on reality. The buzzing in the atmosphere was growing louder with every passing second. He closed his eyes, grabbed a fistful of hair and bit his lip. He then leapt into the shrinking portal, leaving the collapsing reality and his dying employee behind. He wasn't even sure where he was going to land but at least he knew he wasn't going to die in that reality.
He suddenly fell from the portal onto the tile floor of the engineering lab. His spectacles flew off his face and he bit his tongue as his face landed on the floor. Fiddleford looked up to see the familiar faces of his crew and other members of the institute crowed around him. "Fidd?" Stanford's voice came from above him. Fidd looked up to see Stanford hovering over him, tear stains on his cheeks. He'd been crying. Suddenly he dropped to his knees and pulled Fidd into a hug. They held each other for a while, tears fell from both of them. "I thought I'd lost you" Stanford whispered and held him closer. "Me too" Fiddleford whispered back.
The members of the institute waited in silence as they hugged on the floor. They stayed there for a while before breaking apart and drying their tears. "Sir...what happened and where's David?" One of the staff piped up. Fidd looked up at them and then at all of the staff. He paused to think, what did happen? "I have no idea but at least we now know not to touch your parallel self in a different dimension" he concluded before getting up. "David will be missed and our respects will be given to his family but we cannot let this accident set back our work, we are scientists and we must keep looking forward" Stanford stated before making the crowd disperse. Fiddleford was then left thinking of David's poor family. What if it was him that was given the awful fate? At that moment he decided to always be more careful with dimensional traveling and travellers.
