You should have told me...

I'm not from earth, you know. Ask anyone who knows me. I'm definitely not from here. I remember when I met you. You didn't know I had been watching from the night sky, giggling at you. You stomped your tiny human feet as you climbed that big, big hill. You imagined the grass to be everyone that hurt you...stomp, stomp, stomp. And you flung your arms out like a five year old as you yelled at the stars for not guiding you as they should have. Then you would slow down a bit, remembering that you played a part in your own life. You were quite angry, still. I don't blame you, and neither did the stars. Neither did the sea to your left, or the mountains so so far. All you ever were was stuck. And now that you were somewhat free, you didn't even know that in your searching, you were searching for me. You were bored. You pushed through the fields of dandelions, wishing as you kicked. Lighting your path with your endless supply of sparklers, you came to the clearing where you first laid eyes on me. There I was, in the black of the night, much brighter way up in the sky than those little, easy to control, sparklers that you held with all your might. Fireworks. Your eyes widened. I couldn't be held. I couldn't be put out. I was quite the climb away. And I am a forever-show, but only to those who choose to stay. I was every party you were never invited to, and every uncomfortable feeling made light. And you. You were every reason I decided to stay close to earth, maybe even human, and forever...always...light up your night. Sparklers are easier, so I know you won't let go.
