My coworker and I have been spending time looking through a Values Matrix produced for the nonprofit we work for that assesses aspects of underperforming, performing, and exceeding expectations within our organization's Mission and Values. This made me think of the model of Comfort Zones, Growth Zones, and Panic/Danger Zones. My coworker and I had a discussion about people (especially our clients, who have cognitive disabilities as well as long histories of trauma, co-occurring diagnoses, and other unique barriers to change) using Fear Zones as a defense mechanism, and how touchy it can be to navigate the space between meaningful growth and being overwhelmed/in the Panic Zone. Anyway, I ended up making a graphic about it that I'm probably going to share at our next department meeting.
