I'm all for crowdfunding and mutual aid, but sometimes I get really tired of being the person who's willing to sit on the sidewalk begging and barely getting by, when someone who just says "I'm etc etc etc pls give me money" online gets 100s of $$ from people who won't even look at me when I'm out there.
like.... I struggle to make $20 a day, but if I went online and just quoted all the reasons I'm marginalized I would make more?
I'm gunna be so for real, if you don't give panhandlers in your community money, you shouldn't be funding people online either. If you think certain types of begging are better than others, you are a classist asshole
what things are most useful to a panhandler?
Esp with winter and corona? My financial situation prevents cash donations, and I can't fix anyone's housing, but I am very crafty and have a lot of stuff.
- cloth masks
- crocheted gloves/mittens
- bags? I'm not sure I could make backpacks but something handheld
- sleeping mats made from plastic bags to protect from the cold of the ground.
- lightweight tarp: I have a roll of 4 mil plastic, could cut to fit a sleeping person
- Could part out some first aid things like bandaids, antibiotic ointment, painkillers
