Because *Somebody* wrote a thing, I had to make my own. Thank you @anxiety-pocket for making the naga au or else Iâd probably not have thrown any of this together.Â
A story from Panekâs early days I figure I might as well share here.Â
There were few things in life that Panek truly enjoyed or feared, and on both of those lists would be the creatures he lovingly thought of as his masters.Â
Many humans found them to be frightening beings, and to some extent Panek could see why; Master Kars didn't like humans too much and his teeth and blades were sharp, and everyone else followed his lead.. Well, Santana and Wamuu sometimes got more curious about people and went with him to go poke around the town to learn more about them, but for the most part the only humans around were servants that were used for food and pleasure..Â
Panek really wished Master Kars or Master Esidisi was here now..Â
The little ones had gotten curious once again, and well, it was Panek's job to watch out for the little nagas, even if they were about the same size.. humans could be cruel to things they didn't understand.Â
As was evident now, no matter how Panek hissed and snarled at the group of pubescent humans they simply continued their jeering and poking, jabbing at him, jabbing at the frightened nagalings behind him, and when Panek's teeth finally nicked flesh those jeers grew darker and meanerâŠÂ
He cried out as a rock met his forehead, his vision swimming as crimson ran down his face, but he quickly rose back to his feet to catch the next stick in his hands and snap it with ease before hissing and lashing out furiously again, claws catching flesh and a human crying out in pain. He wasn't going to disappoint his Masters! He wasn't going to let these humans hurt his small Masters, no matter what they did to him!
It was as the humans were circling again, ready to continue their attack, that they were interrupted by not one, but two loud snarls and Panek found himself flooded with relief.
MastersâŠÂ
The humans took flight at the sight of the large furious naga that was Kars, the leader of their little family pursuing to make sure they'd never forget to leave them alone, while Esidisi tended to the frightened small ones, swallowing Wamuu and Santana down quickly to the comfort and protection of his insides.Â
Panek shivered as the cool gaze of his Master was turned on him, looking down shamefully while his tail curled around his legs.
He should have said something, he shouldn't have let them go close to the human town, he should have-
This internal dialog was silenced as a large finger wiped at the blood running down his forehead, "you are foolish, little one. So small and yet so determined to throw yourself between danger and those stronger than yourselfâŠ"
Panek nodded, shivering as he grimaced, hearing Kars return, still hissing in annoyance and muttering about the primitive humans before plucking Panek from the ground and holding up the small creature to his face, looking him over before scowling, "Panek! I thought the rules were clear, did I not make them simple enough for you? You all are to stay away from the humans!"
Panek whined and struggled slightly, shaking his head as he tried to protest. He knew the rules! He did! He just.. didn't like to see the little Masters upset and they'd done so good so far being sneakyâŠÂ
But his words never left his throat, Kars sighing and scoffing, "it looks like you've already been taught your lesson the hard way, so consider yourself lucky you're not getting a harsher punishment for this mess."
He poked Esidisi in the gut, making sure the other troublemakers could hear him, his fellow naga grimacing slightly, "that goes for you too! You're in big trouble when we get home! You should know better than this!"
He brought Panek back to his face, jaws parting as he slid the small creature into his mouth, tongue lapping over the little one's wound to help it heal better before swallowing thickly.
Panek whined softly as his bruised form was squeezed on all sides, but once he was in that soft dark warmth of his Master's insides he was quick to relax out of some deep instinct, a purr rumbling in his throat as Kars's stomach welcomed him with a series of soft gurgles as he nuzzled into it.
"Don't think of this as a reward⊠I need you in full form is all, now settle down," Kars's voice rumbled around him and despite the words Panek knew his Master meant well.. he was just worried about them all in his own way.Â
With a small smile, the little servant sunk into the warmth and let himself drift off, ready to accept whatever came the next day.

âThe dragons. The foolish ones, the wise ones, the living ones and the dead ones. If every world were but a place on the board, they would be the game pieces. Yet no single hand directs them. Each is wild, a will unto itself. And then there are the shadows - Edgewalker explained about those - the ones you canât see.â
âHe explained, did he? Well, clearly the hoary bastard likes you more than he does me.â
âThey all cast shadows, Uncle,â Panek said. âInto your realm. Every one of them. Thatâs why thereâs so many prisoners.â
Cotillion frowned, then, slowly, inexorably as comprehension dawned, the godâs eyes widened.
Ask box is open! I think? I'm still getting used to actually making content here...
Always up for prompts or questions! My brain isn't always good at coming up with things on it's own so it never hurts to see what's gonna trigger my next little ficlet.
I dunno, have this story about the first time that Panek actually got ill. I always love immortal characters facing the most mundane illnesses and being certain theyâre dying, and I was feeling horrible so I did the mature thing and dumped my feelings on my characters.Â
_
_
When Panek woke up in the morning, he was fairly certain he was dying.
Some may have called that an exaggerated reaction to waking up with a stuffed-up nose and a cough, but for an immortal who'd been around since the earliest ages of humanity, it sure felt like he was.
Something like him, with his age and his abilities, simply didn't fall victim to common things like an illness! So for him to feel so odd, his head throbbing and his chest rattling with every breath, it wasn't normal!
For a moment he initially just lay there in bed, trying to process what was happening to him as he blinked in the light from the nearby window.Â
He had to get up... he had things he needed to do today, he couldn't just lay here all day! Even if he was feeling poorly, he was stronger than any puny mortal diseases!
The green-haired snake-man was quick to regret this as he forced himself to get up, tail hanging heavily between his legs as his world pitched under his feet almost the second they touched the floor.
Ah... head was hurting again⊠felt like he'd been clocked upside the head by a giant⊠Everything was cold too, much more than usual even in the morningâŠ
His steps were slower than normal as he trudged off towards the kitchen, and despite his best efforts, he found himself swaying with every move.
"Ah, finally up sleepy-head?" Panek blinked slowly at the sound of Joseph's voice, giving a small hum in place of a real response, which caused the naga to frown slightly, "bad morning kiddo?"Â
Hmm, always funny when he heard the mortal say stuff like that, as though he wasn't far older than him⊠but the intent was always nice as wellâŠ
Panek shrugged in response, not sure he could trust his voice when he was feeling like this, opting to not admit how he felt in favor of trudging onward with his day. Something in the back of his head was whispering at him⊠telling him that he shouldn't say anything, showing weakness would lead to bad things... he couldn't fully grasp what that was or why, but it felt familiar⊠So for now, he'd continue as best he could.
The snake-man offered a small smile as he went to grab something quick to eat before heading outside, conscious of the concerned gaze on him the whole time. Even the sometimes oblivious older naga could tell something wasn't right, though he couldn't quite put his finger on it at the momentâŠ
While patrolling around wasn't anything that he was expected to do, he usually included it in his morning routine all the same⊠a sweep around the area and then⊠then watching over Holly as she played around. A simple thing he did every day, no reason he couldn't do it today as well!
Though.. the light seemed brighter than usual, the air cooler against his skin in a way that seemed odd for a summer dayâŠÂ
Panek hadn't made it far into his lap around the reservation before the ache in his chest grew into a persistent cough, the immortal shuddering with every rough expulsion of air.Â
None of this was helping the throbbing of his head to say the least and despite his best efforts, he found himself needing to sit down for a moment, back against a tree until he could regain his breath.
Everything felt awful, too cold and too hot⊠How could anything make him feel like this? He never backed down from a fight, never let his injuries hold him down, but this was⊠How could he be brought down like this? Was something wrong with him? He didn't know anything about himself as a being, so this could be something more⊠The thought terrified him, that he could be facing an issue nobody could help him withâŠ
He had to keep fighting this, keep going on! Laying down like this was giving in! He had a job to do!
With a grunt of effort, Panek forced himself to get back to his feet, ignoring the protesting of his body as he continued onward on his patrol.
--
That line of thinking, however⊠only got him so farâŠÂ
Panek was sitting in the grass, watching the sweet little naga he adored play around when his body finally decided he was no longer capable of making his own decisions.
Chasing leaves and staring at clouds and odd bugs, Holly occasionally returned to him to show off the things she caught, earning a smile and a pat on the head each time.
She was sweet and gentle, a far cry from the little ones Panek had watched over before, who'd just as soon nuzzle up to him as gnaw on his tail.
He was grateful for that gentleness, for the moment of quiet for his aching headâŠÂ
Holly had just mentioned being hungry, ready for lunch when worst came to worst.
Panek hauled himself to his feet, fully prepared to go inside and assist his sweet baby sister when his world went fuzzy, everything swaying around him, and his legs gave out under him to pitch him face-first into the grass.Â
Ah⊠Things weren't listening to him now⊠head was pounding in time to the beating of his heart in his ears, and his legs weren't doing what he wanted.
His arms refused to help him up, every limb unresponsive.
He could hear Holly crying, feel her shaking him, and he wanted to reassure the child he was fine. He just had to get his breath, he just needed a moment to collect himself was all⊠But nothing was listening to him now, all he could do was shiver as chills racked his body, shudder as he coughed.
He had to get back up! He had to⊠had toâŠ
---
The sound of their child crying could cause any parent to come running, and Joseph was no exception, bolting to scoop up his daughter when she came inside absolutely bawling.Â
Frantically the big naga looked her over, though found no injuries to speak of, and somewhere through her tears the words "Panek" and "not waking up" managed to reach his ears after a beat.
Though instinct was yelling at him to tuck the frightened child away, he knew she wouldn't be satisfied until she saw her brother was okay, so he settled for letting Holly curl up around his neck while he rushed outside to see just what had happened to the little protector.
Panek was alive, the shivering was enough of a sign of that, but the heat radiating off of the snake-creature's skin did nothing to ease Joseph's worry as he scooped him up into his arms.
Those usually bright eyes were half-lidded and dull, bright blue looking more like glassy marbles, and the way they barely reacted to his presence⊠Dread settled into the naga's stomach like a block of ice and he was quick to hurry back inside, calling for Suzi to help.
--
When Panek next awoke, he still felt awful.
His head still ached, his chest still felt sticky inside, and his nose was still clogged, but something was different.
He was back in bed, the soft cushion covered in blankets and pillows he adored so much, tucked firmly in with a cool cloth on his head.. And he wasnât alone.
Holly was curled into his side, clinging to him even as she slept, and curled around them both was Joseph, who perked up when he heard a whine slip from Panekâs irritated throat.
âAh-ah-no, no,â he was quick to keep the snake-creature from getting up, âthought you had more sense than to go out like this kid! You gave Holly and Suzie a hell of a scare. Didnât even know something like you could get sick.â
Not that he himself had been frightened, no sir not at all.
Panek was quiet, though the furrowing of his brows and the look in his eyes spoke volumes as he glanced down at the little naga glued to his side.
Joseph sighed at this, shaking his head, âlook.. I know youâve got it in your head youâve got to be on-call all the time, ready for whatever can happen.. But what would have happened if anything had come to hurt Holly when you were like this? You canât protect anyone when you can barely stand!â
The immortal whined again at this, biting his lip before a few weak words slipped out, ââm⊠not weak..,â he mumbled, voice raspy as he grimaced.
âWeak?â the naga seemed surprised at this, âyou? Come on! Even the best of us need a sick day on occasion! Might not be easy to do things while you rest, but itâs better than you getting worse!â
He huffed as he ruffled the snake-creatureâs hair, âtake it from me kid, youâve more than earned yourself a break, you donât have to force yourself to keep going when you arenât feeling good. Not like youâll be in trouble if you canât run around after Holly or fight off any hunters for a bit when youâve been doing it since you got here.â
Panek wasnât sure if the heat in his face was fever or embarrassment, but he felt a little silly now that he was here and not in the middle of the woods by himselfâŠ
He would have tried all the same, though with how horrible he felt he doubted he would have been able to do much against even a squirrel of all things. He really had been stupid about it all⊠stubborn as always eh? He could almost imagine his first master laughing at him for his foolishness⊠ughâŠ
His head hurt too much for him to dwell on his previous thoughts right now. He was tired⊠and while he still hurt, things still ached, and he was still thinking back on when he was underestimating the ability to breathe through his nose, butâŠ
He felt better in some way despite it all, happy and content as he lay in bed, a feeling of safety washing over him from the thick coils that guarded him.
He could.. He could take a break.. At least for a little bit.. Until he felt betterâŠ
âS.. sorry..,â Panek mumbled as his eyes slid shut, unable to find the words to express how he was feeling, though as was usual by now Joseph could find the unspoken things his little protector was saying, the naga chuckling as he settled back down to watch over the two, âdonât worry about it, let someone else do the guarding for a bit,â those were the last things that reached the small immortals ears before he sank into blissful sleep.Â

Remember when I said Basil was "one of my oldest?" Well, say hello to that actual oldest oc, my pillar-creature Panek!
I.. don't actually know what he is, nor does he. He served the Pillar Men as a sort of servant/pet, possesses many similar abilities but is overall much weaker than them. As a result, the sunlight doesn't effect him the same way, making him a highly useful ally to them, though he did little in the ways of actual fighting against the young Joseph Joestar.
He knew what his master's were doing was wrong, their plans couldn't really be allowed to come to fruition, this world wasn't the same as what they'd gone to sleep in... but he followed along all the same, assisting as he was told, though ultimately was taken into the SPW's custody when Kars was defeated.
When word of Jojo's apparent survival reached his ears, the formerly quiet creature made a choice, and stated he would serve this Joestar family and no other. Made sense didn't it? Defeated his master's, so he was stronger, someone he should be calling master now.
And he's been doing that ever since. Though ultimately he's become less servant and more family, and he would die for his new family. Wadjet is a stand that reflects that protective nature, absorbing damage and reflecting back at his attackers as a beam of hard light with double the strength. Fairly simple overall, but he uses it well.
