DINO FACT OF THE DAY: The Paluxysaurus Jonesi -
This sauropod from the Early Cretaceous period was found on the Jones Ranch in Hood County, Texas. The Paluxysaurus was originally assigned to the Pleurocoelus genus, but its designation was
changed in 2007 after paleontologist Peter Rose published a paper declaring it a new genus and species.
The Paluxysaurus belongs to the genus Sauroposeidon, named after the god of the sea, Poseidon. The Paluxysaurus lived on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, and is the official state dinosaur of Texas! Yee-haw!
