Barney 🦄 . 3 posts in 3 days - who dis!? 😂🙋🏼‍♀️ . Little Barnabas, what a journey we've had so far... Its hard to believe this was the pony who wouldn't even let me pat him on the neck - sometimes I couldn't even walk up to him in the paddock. . Today we ripped the bandaid off and I got on him for the first time ever, and he was amazing. I could tell he was quite worried, but he stood like a good boy. . He got a bit of a fright when Jay led him off - but we tried again and he settled quite quickly. It's been a few years since I've been given a led pony ride on one this little! 💕 . Back into it again tomorrow, hoping that he's even better for round 2. This boy will just need lots of consistency, but I have lots of faith in him. So proud of the little guy today! 🥰🦄 . Happy Heavenly Birthday, Zippo's Exclamation. You would 24 today, old man. I shouldn't call you that, because we both know that 24 is still kinda young. Young enough to still be ridden for a few more years. Hell, you could still even race if I wanted to deal with those drunken assholes! We know you were still fast enough and had the heart for it. I just couldn't stand the thought of you getting hurt. Couldn't bear the possibility of losing you. I know you're looking down on me, hating how I cry so much, how miserable I am. A friend of mine said that you were what got me through everything, and she was spot on. If I had a great day, I went and saw you. If I had a miserable day, I went and saw you. And today, I'd have been there with a bag of carrots and an apple, singing Chicken Fried, and telling you stories, and you'd listen but instead you made your journey and oh my God my baby, the rest of my life seems so long without you in it. I remember living without you, but you were the one thing I wanted my whole life, as long as I can remember I wanted a paint pony and you were perfect, absolutely perfect. You raised my kids, you kept me sober, and you healed my PTSD more than I ever dreamed possible. So now you're gone and I just don't know what to do without you. If I'm being honest, I really don't. I'm still taking care of my family, still getting out of bed every day somehow, but something inside of me is broken and I don't think it is ever going to heal. My only comfort is that I know my daddy must love having you, and he is taking the best care possible of you. And my two nieces are probably happy to have a horse, and you're the best horse they could ever hope to have. Bill probably understands now why I needed you so bad, and I'm sure Neal loves you. But I miss you so much I can hardly find the words. You were the best thing that's ever been mine. Thank you so much for choosing me. Barney 🦄 . Hey there everyone, happy new year! 🙋🏼‍♀️ . I need to start posting more often, so I don't have a novel-sized chunk of news to share 😂 . January has been nuts here, my youngest daughter Mia turned 1 and had a birthday party with family, I finally picked up my new car, and now we're getting Ella ready to start school! In between that I've been back to spend time with family in Melbourne, and have started doing a bit of journalling and goal setting work - something that was a big new years resolution of mine 💕 . Barney and Bonsey are back in work and so far haven't missed a beat. Bonesy has been doing a bit of conditioning work to build his muscles up, and Barney has been doing a bit of desensitising, and work in the round pen. . Phoenix will be back in this week as well, he's looking great on his new diet, and now that Ella is heading off to school - I'll actually have time to exercise horses! 😂 . I'm looking forward to getting it all rolling again, getting up that bit earlier and managing my time a bit better around the kids - another thing I'm working on this year 💪 . I'm loving following everyone's journeys here on the 'gram, it's so inspiring seeing you all out there kicking butt - keep up the great work! 😍 . Phoenix and Ella 🥰 . Hey there everyone, hope you're well! 🙋🏼‍♀️ . It's been a bit of a quiet week here - a week of rain, the return of the mud, the back yard flooding (and consequently turning our tap water a delightful shade of brown) and the third reschedule of our concrete due to wet weather, ugh! 🙈 . Usually my gumboots are packed away by this time of the year and all the horses are in work, but I can't even get the one going... Jay, We need an arena! 😂🙏 . We have our concrete man coming to assess the ground for us on the weekend so we can re-book him, and in the meanwhile it's just been doing the odd bit of groundwork with the horses to keep them ticking along 🏇 . My best session this week was with Barney, who gets a bit anxious sometimes. I wasn't planning on working him - I was actually just going to pop him in the yard so I could give Bonsey a work, but when he decided to fly through the yard gate at a million miles per hour - well, I can't leave a problem unsolved 😂 . We practiced point and send through, disengage and wait, but he kept wanting to rush back in. I never asked him to stop, just kept sending him back to where I wanted him, and he was allowed to rest there if he'd like. We eventually had the lightbulb moment, his head dropped, and he started licking and chewing 👏 . Then we did some desensitising with the rope, which was good. Did some more until his back stopped twitching, which was also good, and then again to get the head to drop - and eventually we got there, along with a big sigh and more licking and chewing. . I'm not sure why he was so worried today, but just goes to show that it doesn't always go to plan with horses, and you can only work with what you've got on the day. They sure are great teachers of patience! 💕 . Barney 🦄 . Hey there everyone, hope you're all doing great! 🙋🏼‍♀️ . It's been a busy few days here - I survived pfizer shot number 2 with only a day out of action, and got straight back into it yesterday, only a bit sore and sluggish 💪 . Bonesy's had a ride and 2 sessions on the lunge so far, and he's slowly finding his way out of holiday mode 😁 Once I have my spotter home again during the day I'll be jumping back on - but work on the ground is still going to get him fit, balanced, and keeping that brain ticking along. . Barney's had a groundwork bootcamp this week and has been coming along in leaps and bounds. I honestly couldn't be prouder of him, he's a different pony 💕 Lots of sensitising and desensitising, sending him off QUIETLY with a point both ways (this is a huge deal as he used to love to bugger off 😂) and disengaging both the hind, and the fore. I've been doing some lateral flexion in the halter, and he's proving to be very soft. Hopefully I can get on him within the next week or two - whenever Jay has a few days off in a row to help me with the last little bit of the work. . Phoenix has been continuing on with groundwork and going great, super excited to get on him, too! . So nice to see the sun out, and the mud finally drying up; we've had to postpone our concreter twice now, so hopefully if this lovely weather continues I'll have another exciting farm update for you all soon! 🏇 . Barney 🦄 . Look at this little superstar go! 🌟 So proud of Barney today having his first ever lunge off the bit. What a huge night and day difference to how he usually goes in the halter 😂🙈 . We ventured outside of the round yard today as well - another big exciting first, and this will mean we can step his workload up. As you can see the round yard is looking pretty muddy and sloppy, so it's a relief to have that big space in the arena paddock to do some work with him. . I picked up a girth for him, and his little saddle now has stirrups on, so now it's full steam ahead, and pony bootcamp has officially begun 💪 . This week has been a busy one at home, looooads of week spraying (I'm going to have shoulders like hulk hogan, lol) Fixing fences, washing rugs, having rugs repaired, striking tree cuttings, and mowing. I just love springtime 🥰 . This week will see Bonesy coming back into work as well, and in the meantime we're getting a saddle sorted for Phoenix.
