Madeline didn’t want to go. Not that she didn’t really like Jason, she did, but he had the tendency to be a bit of a jerk. Okay maybe a total jerk but they had been together for over nine months now and things were just comfortable, routine, so she put up with it. He did have his soft side though. He’d take her out dates and he bought her flowers once. Maybe it was just a phase he was in, being an ass. Madeline believed it, even if it did seem far fetched. But she still didn’t want to go. It was a ‘chill’ house party with all of his friends, with drinking and drugs and strangers. Madeline didn’t have a problem with any of that but it was just a lot all together. She was by no means a prude but partying like that wasn’t her forte. She was more of a ‘sit at a club with her girls and drink cocktails’ kind of girl.
The night of the party had arrived. Madeline had decided to slightly ignore the chill dress code and spiced up her outfit a tad. She thought if she dressed up tonight, Jason would pay more attention to her and actually be all over her. The last time they were at a party, he spent the whole night playing beer pong with ‘the bros’ which did nothing for her self esteem. Jason couldn’t even pick her up this time because he was pre-drinking somewhere else so Madeline walked the three blocks herself and timidly walked in. She had no idea who anyone in there was so for the first fifteen minutes she hung around kitchen with an unknown alcoholic concoction in her hands. At least the music was good enough to sway to, she’d give the host that.
