Jinki was naive to ever think settling in Uisu would be a smooth process for him. He supposed he never had been quite able to leave his past behind.
It was purely out of habit that he still kept himself armed when he went out. Back in Seoul, he had never once left the house without some sort of weapon with him, and now that he was in Uisu, it was a hard habit to kick. He hadn’t quite wanted to force himself out of it quite yet, though -- he’d had a sinking feeling that not quite everyone had been in the gang’s headquarters that night he decided to burn it down, and the past couple days had proved his suspicions correct. Someone was following him.
He simply let them be for a while, waiting to see what they would do. A few nights, he had left his front door unlocked at night, just to see if they would take the bait, but with no luck. He had been starting to get frustrated before tonight, almost convinced they were never going to do anything -- until they did. Jinki had been walking home from the library when suddenly he was pulled into an alleyway he was passing, and he had no time to react before a knife was forced harshly into his stomach. He bit his lip at the pain, but quickly forced the attacker off of him.
Any gunshots likely would attract too much attention, especially in such a small city. Thankfully, this man seemed to be rather inexperienced, so it was easy to overpower him at first, but the man was also much larger than Jinki himself, so he soon found himself on the ground with the man hovering over him. I don’t have fucking time for this. Huffing, Jinki forced the knife from the attacker’s hand, wasting no time in cutting his throat and once again throwing him off.
The pain in his stomach was intense, and Jinki grimaced at the amount of blood -- both his and the attacker’s -- on his clothes. Taking one last glance at the corpse now laying next to him, he sighed before trying to dispose of it in a nearby dumpster. “Fuck, why are you so heavy,” he complained. Once the body was in the dumpster, Jinki set the entire contents on fire and slammed the lid shut. He knew he probably wouldn’t be able to make it home tonight; he would have to stop and rest for a bit, but at the very least, he wanted to be away from where he had disposed of the body. So, he stopped just a few alleys down, sitting up against the wall as he tried to catch his breath.
