More bits of personal sci-fi lore shoehorned into a popular grimdark universe/franchise?
If the Acier existed in the Warhammer universe, they would be:
Space pirates and companions of Rogue traders
T'au auxiliaries and diplomats
Who knows, I might even color these two
Still working on the next big thing to post, in the meanwhile wanted to share some other stuff I made some time ago. Long post, but will put some art in.
Soooo... I love dragons. They're awesome, and the things they represent in stories are interesting to think about, so one day I thought, what if I make a world where the dragons are the dominant species, while still representing the things they usually do, without being substitutes for humans. I wanted a world, where dragon biology shapes culture and technology they develop. I know Wings of Fire exist, but I never really managed to get into it, since it's style of storytelling and worldbuilding clashes with my brain too much, and it's pretty different from what I want from a dragon world.
That's how Draconia was born. A world of dragons, on the surface looking like a magical fantasy setting, but with a big twist that informs the way everything in that world works. Draconia is a working title, which I'll probably change, and I'm gonna tag this as Orbis Draconum because I googled that and nobody's using it.
So, the world's inhabited by all sort of dragons. There are many kinds, mostly based of some of the common ones in various mythologies throughout the world. The idea is to put a fun twist on each species, so we have dragons who are also knights, wyverns who are regal and frail, eastern style serpents who lost the ability to fly and awkwardly crawl around, small feathered short-living bursts of joy, desert dragons with hide for scales who are the most human-like... Honestly, the lore got too big at this point to put explain in one post. I've got a design document for this thing being written.
I've only got some old concepts for the wyverns (cause I love writing their lore) and desert dragons so far.
The wyverns are very hung on the idea of families and selective breeding, since all of the natural "magic" some dragons posess gets diluted with hybridization, so they try to keep their abilities alive by forming clans with different specializations. Each clan has an ability and a drawback, which I might detail in later posts, since this is already getting quite long.
Here's a wyvern named Coal Eyes, a leader of the Physicians clan:
And here's a concept thing I made for all the major clans I've managed to come up with (came out janky, but it works):
From left to right: Whisperers, Physicians, Virtuosos, Miners, Zeppelins, Sentinels, Harvesters, Alchemists, Scouts and Scholars. I'm pretty excited about their lore, so I'm definitely gonna share more details once I get back to this project.
Also, there are some sketches of the desert dragons, which other dragons often call "tribals", since their technology level is pretty low compared to others.
They're not less capable than other species though. They're smart, social, and have a crucial ability to throw objects relatively well, reminicent of humans. Some of them also managed to move into other societies and integrate well, even though a lot of their brethren don't approve of that, thinking that those who left were manipulated by the technologically superior dragons into being exploited. Which is partially true, actually.
And that's about it for today. I'm actually incredibly hyped by this project, and it's the most alive world I've ever written, even though it's still like... Only 20-30% done. Working on this has been a lot of fun. If I survive at least a few more years, there will be more.
Restoration
Again, this story bit is from my canon lore of my own novel. This isn’t GW2 related, it’s my own creation and kind of revolves around my OC Noxxi. hope you enjoy, though.
With such swiftness, she traveled through space. She gone by planets, moons and stars. Noxxi seemed to be unstoppable and purposeful. Soon there was a planet in her sight that was devastated by attacks. Its surface was destroyed, ruined, decayed only a small portion of the planet survived. Slowly approaching the planet, she landed on it to look around with a saddened face. Clouds gathered and began to rain.
“I’m too late, hundreds of years late.” She said as she got on her knees, touching the ground, then softly laid down on the rough and rocky ground beneath herself. After a deep breath, she stood up and walked toward the first place that survived on the surface of the planet. Within a few hours she arrived, noticing the surviving wildlife and inhabitants of the planet who were less human-like.
Noxxi talked with the beasts and people of the planet, they explained what happened to their home. She walked to the border of the place, looking at the destroyed part of the planet. “It’s been a while since she appeared, I was expecting her to do it again, but never thought she would come here out of all places.” She mumbled to herself as she shook her head. “I’m a bit unsure as of what should I do now.” She let out a sigh. “Shall I leave it as it is now or shall I bring life back to this planet or shall I completely restore it back to its previous state…? It’s a hard decision.” She looked back once again at the surviving part of the planet behind her.
“Who am I kidding with...? I know I can’t just leave it as it is now, but the surface is also way too damaged to bring life back here normally.” She said with a thoughtful look then shrugged. “I guess restoration it is.” With that, Noxxi gazed upon the skies and simply hopped into the air, flying above the clouds and atmosphere of the planet and its outer space, out into space, then looked back at the planet in front of her.
She cracked her fingers and stretched a little bit, “I could almost say it is show time, but nobody could hear it here.” She closed her eyes slowly, her body started to glow and grow and take a different form of pure energy being, looking similar to some celestial being. She grew to the point where she could easily embrace the whole planet and so she did too. She embraced the entire planet, gazing down at its survivors with her distinctively green glowing eyes. Filling the planet’s air with soothing energy, calming down every remaining being on it and with her face being visible to most. “Nothing compares. No worries.” Her voice soothingly echoing through the air to every being, let it be plant life or animal being or anything else.
She seemingly took a deep breath after, then let it out, it looked like she blew air on the entire planet and whatever it touched on its surface, it brought life back and even more, it restored the landscape, the water, everything it had before the destruction. With that done, she pulled herself back from the planet, returned to her previous form and without any further word, she left.
She may not be able to see you, but she knows all about you.
Her god is her sight.
A little concept I’m thinking of, as it’s known my tenno is blind, instead of simply seeing from void energy, her sight is often directed by Rell. The reason why she joined the Red Veil was for this reason. She doesn’t speak of Rell’s influence on her to almost anyone. Paladino is aware of the sight, but knows almost nothing about it. Again, just a concept playing into lore of why my Operator chose Red Veil. Still need to work on how she went blind, and this is subject to change.
