Amity: Sigh, I don’t know if we did something wrong. Azura is a good kid but she also seems to be a bit of a…what’s the phrase?
Luz: A stick in the mud?
Amity: Yes, that. Was it us? She reminds me a bit of me but during the years before I met you, Batata. I’m not like Odalia am I?
Luz: No, of course not Sweet Potato. You’re the best mom ever. Azura can be a bit of a stickler but she isn’t anywhere close to how Odalia had you.
Amity: Then how?—
Sasha who’s helping Anne making lunch: I haven’t had a real chance to talk with her but based on my observations and from what our kids have said about her, it’s because Azura feels like she needs to live up to your legacy. She likely has heard stories of your legend from both you and others and now doesn’t want to disappoint you by “being lesser” and so she feels like she has to be perfect or else she’ll be disgracing the family name.
Amity: But she doesn’t need to do that. We love her regardless.
Luz: How do we help her?
Sasha: Letting her know that is a start. Also celebrating her accomplishments both academic and personal as something she achieved due to her own work rather than any legacy she might believe she needs to live up to.
Luz: Okay, we’ll do that. Thanks Sasha.
Sasha: No problem, I’ll send you my bill later.
