after watching xana awakens, ulrich and yumi's attitude towards each other in teddygodzilla, and just their entire dynamic, is really getting to me. because in XA, they were complete strangers, they were beginning to connect over their love for martial arts when yumi beat ulrich up at practice before ulrich acted like a sore loser. then he ditches odd and sissi for another round (love it) and they have another moment blushing because of each other. but they're still kind of cold, unfamiliar with each other. they do that cool maneuver on lyoko. and ulrich cares for her when the krab hits her
then you get to teddygodzilla and they're best friends! they're going to the dance together! ulrich runs all the way to her house to warn her! yumi runs into the gym to see if he's okay. they hold each other.
idk it's just getting to me that these two kids who were friendless before they found each other, who were alone and misunderstood, who probably got told they're too much or not enough, who both grew up without the best role models, who are both proud and stubborn but incredibly fierce and loyal and compassionate, managed to build such a deep, caring friendship. managed trust each other and open up. "you are yumi's best friend, right?" "ulrich's your best friend" yeah. yeah they are.
Ulumi absolutely would have been dating if saving the world hadnโt become first priority
This is maybe good because it gave them time to grow up though? TBH I donโt know if they wouldโve made it if they started dating right away
i wanna say that they would have made it, but i think their relationship would've had less depth? i think that saving the world, fighting in lyoko, and nearly dying every other day really brought them closer together and made them appreciate each other more, and their strengths, and how much they're willing to do to keep the world and each other safe. lmk what you think!
I could see that too! There's no way to know for sure hahaha
Personally, I think if the stakes were lower and they started dating right away, they would have ending up clashing and breaking up because they don't have the shared history and time where they were forced to be friends and learn everything about each other. They're both pretty proud individuals, so breaking up would be so easy if they didn't 'have to' be together for Lyoko, you know?
BUT I really see these as good things for them long-term. They were forced to get better at communicating, they know each other under stress, they're friends first, they've matured. Also, when your partner has seen you totally get your shit rocked by a virtual monster or saved your life, there's not much more to get embarrassed about lol
Just my headcanons though :) I don't think there's really a 'right' answer here. I like the points you brought up though!
