Meet My Cross Variant OC - Crest
I was playing Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream and decided to make a Cross Mii to add to the island because I am so damn tired of Dream being a dramatic home-wrecking hoe. He has caused problems for so many love confessions and relationships!
So I made a Cross Mii. Made him and gave him a cool X-shaped battle scar!
Then it occurred to me... Did I just make a Cross Sans variant OC?
So I decided to sketch him out with some quick little backstory about him and how he got his scars. He wasn't a Swap or Fell type, but different nonetheless. Different because he was able to take down X-Gaster for good along with the [OVERWRITE] ability. Doing so is how he got his scars along with other abilities. Sadly, he still lost his AU, but took certain articles of clothing with him as he traveled through various AUs as a rogue Outcode, trying to find a way to bring his home and his people back.
Anyways, here's a WIP image of my Cross Variant OC - Crest! I'll update it once it's finished of course.
I've always worried that I wouldn't be able to properly draw a Sans, but, uh, guess being a mega Cross fangirl is what made me able to pull THIS off! Hah!
sooo i think its been long enough that i can finally talk about what i mentioned at the end of this post! yay!
as i said before, finding fonts for the characters to speak in for Robin's intro comic was suuuper fun because i have a minor hyperfixation in fonts and typefaces (ive even made a handful of my own lol).
on top of choosing a font for Robin and Voidball for the comic, i also got to choose a font for...
lets call him "Overwrite" for now
he is by far the character i went through the MOST fonts for because it was really important that his font convey both the proper tone and context. i really needed to find one that fit him and his situation.
at first, i wanted him to have a font in a similar handwritten style to Robin because they are both the "protagonists" of their respective worlds. but to keep Robin unique and highlight the slight differences between them, i didnt want to reuse the same font i'd given Robin.
so i went digging. in the running for Overwrite's fonts were the following:
however, once i applied them to the pages, i realized there was a problem: they didn't fit the tone of the scene. none of the handwritten ones i tried did.
simply put and without giving too much away: the handwritten fonts were far too clean and lively, both things which Overwrite is not.
then it hit me: perhaps i'm looking in the wrong place. instead of a mirror to the protagonist, maybe he should mirror the style of his counterpart: Voidball.
so i went looking for video game pixel fonts. the top 2 in the running at that point were Pokemon Classic by TheLouster115 and the Minecraft font, the latter of which made it pretty far into the creative process before i ultimately decided to scrap it.
the thing is, both of these fonts are strong in their own right, but neither necessarily fit Overwrite. this time instead of having too much personality, they had too little, and what personality they did have was instantly recognizable in a way that was VERY distracting (i.e. if you read his dialog the first thing your brain would do is go "hey! that's the Minecraft/Gen 2 Pokemon font!" which is not what i wanted lol)
so i went back to the drawing board again, this time equipped with a much clearer idea of what i wanted: a font that was stripped of notable personality and visibly fractured.
i went through the MOST fonts with this iteration. so many that i didn’t even bother downloading all of them. it was quite literally just several hours of clicking through pages on DaFont, saving potential matches in new tabs and comparing all of them to each other.
the problem i ended up having was that a lot of the fonts were either too popular/already recognizable or UNBEARABLY difficult to read. finding one that had what i was looking for on TOP of being legible was a Herculean task, i'll tell ya that much.
after much deliberation, i ultimately settled on the font you see in the final version of the comic: Glass Houses by Digital Graphic Labs
now i know what you may be thinking: if readability was a priority, why would you pick this one?
well simply put: its letters were all mostly intact and still reliably uniform enough to pass as normal at a glance, but are undeniably corrupted on closer inspection. sound familiar?
GH not only fits the character and atmosphere, but it elevates its surroundings and tells you a decent amount about the character without any extra writing or drawing. isn't that cool? :D
i have a WHOLE other rant on the design process for Overwrite himself, but i'll save it for another post. for now, enjoy the crumbs of ~lore~ in this post lol

X–Yuto
Beginning: The Fall and EnslavementThe story begins with Yuto (the bearer of the Black Soul) joining Nightmare Sans’ gang after annihilating his original world.Yuto lived in constant conflict with Killer Sans, clinging to his identity and rejecting the name “Chara,” viewing his clothing (Papyrus’ scarf and Sans’ coat) as sacred memories rather than trophies.2. Rebellion and Copying the “Code of Gods”During a mission in the X-Tale universe, Yuto rebelled against Nightmare. With extraordinary intelligence, he “copied” the Overwrite ability from X-Gaster and fused it with his own “Hatred Determination,” creating the most powerful command ever known across universes:“The Black Integrated Overwrite Button.”3. Shattering the Alliance of TitansYuto faced a terrifying alliance consisting of Nightmare, X-Gaster, and Ink Sans.Instead of direct combat, he used his coding abilities to redistribute power:Sent Nightmare to confront his brother Dream.Sent Error Sans to face the legendary entity Error404.Stripped Ink Sans of his emotion vials, leaving him completely powerless.4. The Judgment of X-GasterYuto trapped the creator X-Gaster using black and purple strings (with Muffet’s assistance), but refused to kill him.Instead, he handed him over to his victims (X-Chara and X-Cross) to receive eternal punishment. He transformed X-Gaster’s soul into a weak monster soul, ensuring:He could not escapeHe would remain alive… to suffer5. Restoring Balance to the SoulsYuto corrected the errors across universes:Restored the dignity of Classic Sans’ stolen half-soul.Gave Error Sans a copy of Frisk’s soul (Red Determination) to satisfy his obsession with collecting souls and keep him from further destruction.Freed all inhabitants of the X-Tale world from Gaster’s control, returning them to normal lives.6. Ending: The Choice of “Continue”In a decisive moment, Yuto refused to use Reset and instead chose Continue, accepting reality and responsibility. He abandoned his desire for death and nothingness…and became the new:“Guardian of the Multiverse.”Final Notes on the Character (2025)Yuto’s Philosophy:“I may be a monster… but I am not a demon.”Yuto does not kill for pleasure, but to end the programmed suffering imposed by creators.Current Status:Yuto now lives in the X-Tale universe as a protector of the multiverse. His power is respected by all, and he spends his time in peace, بعيداً عن القتال، while holding onto the memories of his friends, Jen and Lily.Power:Yuto now possesses:Multiverse travelGravity magicThe integrated Overwrite abilityMaking him stronger than any Sans or human.
Something about this one makes me want to obliterated him into a small purpleish-blue stain.
(The last panel is off-screen kissing btw.)
How exactly does the Overwrite work? I mean I get that we'll be able to see eventually what it can do at its full strength in later episodes of Underverse, but I'm more concerned about its relationship with the multiverse as a whole. Think about it. Through context clues, we can infer that what's happening when someone is Overwritten is that their code is being temporarily hijacked and -in more severe cases- being entirely rewritten. This also go for timelines that are also made of code. Makes sense. But for the Overwrite to be as dangerous as it's shown to be, everything has to be made out of code. So what happens when someone tries to Overwrite something that's not made of code? There are some universes that are more organic than others. Without a doubt Something New is a code-based timeline, it even has a player modifying the code in a pseudo-Overwrite to make Killer (which is also an interesting point within itself), but what about Dreamtale? Dreamtale is just a world that was moved into the UTMV by chance because Nim was looking for a place to hide the Tree of Feelings. Is Dreamtale made of code, or are its inhabitants made of DNA and a true Soul? If we consider Dreamtale is also told through the perspective of a fairy tale book, could you argue that Dreamtale's world is made out of text as apposed to code? Does this mean that Dream or Nightmare are immune to the Overwrite? Or does the Overwrite work regardless? Could Dreamtale be immune to corruption or by extent destruction from other code-manipulating outcodes like Error or Fatal? You could make the argument that an AU is not inherently made out of code unless stated or a player is showcased. Would the Overwrite work on them too?
Am I thinking too hard about this? Yes. Yes, absolutely.
