You were having a good day. Customers at work were actually nice today. No one yelling or cussing at you. You didn’t feel stupid after a silly mistake, instead laughing it off and apologizing as you corrected what you did.
Everything was fine. Everyone was nice to you so why did that one thing at the end of the night have to be the one to set you off?
Something so small and insignificant but now you were trying not to have a panic attack as you headed home.
You could feel the tears starting to form, the familiar lump in your throat no matter how much you tried pushing it down.
You were fine. You were already heading home so why did you feel like everything was crashing down? Why were the thoughts getting more persistent and why did it feel like so many eyes were on you? Judging you for something that didn’t even matter.
By the time you made it home you were a mess. Tears running down your face, teeth sunk into your bottom lip to prevent it from quivering and letting sobs out.
You barely made it to the door before you were crouching down with a hand over your mouth to muffle your cries. Everything felt too much. Too heavy. And you hated how alone you truly felt.
He watched from the side. Hands clenching at his side in attempt to stop himself from walking over.
He thought he finally got rid of all the problems in your life. Your mean boss that used you like a verbal punching bag had suddenly been fired. The entitled customers that would come in and make things harder, suddenly went missing.
Hell even the guys who would make you uncomfortable on the streets were no longer there.
He did everything that he could but it wasn’t enough. There was no way he could truly fix this. Something that was emotional rather than physical. That would take more than just a little time and effort.
You barely flinch when you felt his hand. You didn’t even have to look up to know who it was since it seem like he was the only person there for you nowadays.
You didn’t even know when he took the keys from your hand. When he gently pulled you back up to your feet and guided you to your room. Barely even registering when he got you in bed, making sure to take your shoes off before getting you under the covers.
And when he got next to you, pulling you into his arms, you finally snapped back. Gripping his shirt as you pushed your face into his chest.
You knew you shouldn’t be like this with him. He has been stalking for you for the past few months. Sending you messages by untraceable numbers.
But just for tonight
You told yourself. Tomorrow you’ll kick him out if he is still here. Maybe call the police and go back to being scared of him. But for tonight you’ll give in. Let yourself rest his arms and find comfort in his hold.
Let yourself believe the sweet whispers he was now telling you as your cries turned soft until they were just sniffles.
Just for tonight. You said once more letting yourself drift off to sleep. The exhausted from this week and tonight overtaking you.
