-Overlooked EDH General of the Day: Jolrael, Empress of Beasts -Average price on tcgplayer.com ($0.25) -Why is Jolrael overlooked? -Being stuck with a 3/3 body for five green mana doesn't make Jolrael the strongest, or most efficient creature in green by a long shot, and her ability requires the dreaded DISCARDING FROM YOUR HAND!!! Because of this many Magic players will undervalue her ability of turning lands into creatures, which leads to the conclusion that the Empress of Beasts can't do her damage on the battlefield; however, that is not the case. -Why is Jolrael strong/fun? -Making Jolrael fun isn't a hard feat to accomplish because almost nobody uses her. Turning lands into creatures supports many combat tricks, and, though I don't advocate it in almost any match, in Gruul colors Jolrael and Anger of the Gods work together to exile all of one player's lands. Sure the Empress doesn't throw 10/10 green baddies left and right, and she isn't the most effective general by any means; however, she supports all types of different builds and I am sure that she has the possibility to be a fantastic card in almost any playgroup.

Overlooked General of the Day... Adamaro, First to Desire We will be highlighting three questions about Adamaro, •Why is he overlooked? •Why should you use this general? •How can you build for Adamaro? -So, let's start off with the first question, why is Adamaro overlooked as a general? Well in Magic there are a handful of cards whose power and toughness are equal to the cards in your hand, and can be exploited by card draw with no maximum hand size, and that tends to be a lot easier to control than your opponents hand sizes; especially when you want them to have more cards. This tends to present a challenge to many players due to the fact that your opponents having more spells in hand is almost never good for you, and they can empty their own hands by playing spells. It is because of these challenges that Adamaro tends to be overlooked as a general. -Why use Adamaro in your EDH deck then? As always the point of EDH is fun, and though there are much better generals out there, this card is inherently unique due to his power and toughness being equal to the largest hand size of an opponent. This being said many EDH games are played in multiplayer, and there is almost always the opponent that loves to have seven cards in hand at all times. That being said, in many matches you can pull out a 6/6 or 7/7 Adamaro on turn two or three which changes the board state greatly in your favor. Also, Adamaro is OVERLOOKED, this means that the odds are in your favor for your opponents not paying much attention to his ability and leaving you alone until you pull him out. Finally, his unique requirements for power and toughness can lead you to building a deck unlike any that you've ever seen to optimize your general. -I don't like suggesting cards to go with others because it limits your thinking and imagination; however, I suggest putting as many counters on him as possible so that way he can never die from having your opponent(s) hand being empty. Find cards that let the entire table draw cards, or even just your opponents to boost Adamaro, and as a slight change to your mono red commander deck I would stray from the direct damage route, not because it is more competitive, but because direct damage is a deck that everyone has seen. Overall, I really enjoy Adamaro, First to Desire, and I feel that he is a unique card that was printed in a set where the term legendary was moot; however, I highly suggest looking into him for your next EDH build. Overlooked General of the Day... General Jarkeld -Why is General Jarkeld overlooked by commander players? -Well first and foremost a 1/2 body for four mana is, well pretty awful in almost any case... He can't block most creatures, he is susceptible to most kill spells, and he isn't going to be winning by general damage anytime soon. Plus, this guy is essentially a cleaner version to one of my favorite bad cards, Sorrow's Path, which is considered to be one of the worst cards in the game; however, the General has no downside to his ability. Overall, General Jarkeld doesn't have a high power or toughness, and his ability won't win the game. -So why play this general? -General Jarkeld's ability may not seem like much; however, it adds an overlooked change to combat, being that your opponents have to make sure that they will get a positive outcome on every single blocker they are choosing, because you have the power to change the board state during every combat. Though his ability isn't the greatest General Jarkeld is an extremely fun general to play with and build around. -How to play General Jarkeld. -Personally I enjoy threatening effects such as deathtouch, double strike, etc, attached to your creatures when playing with Jarkeld and these effects your opponents will have to make sure that every turn they are only blocking with creatures they are okay with loosing. Jarkeld's ability creates an overlooked complexity to the game which essentially says that you shouldn't block with creatures you aren't okay with loosing, and in many cases your opponents will forget and loose their best creatures, or they simply won't block yours. -I hope you enjoyed today's overlookedmtg general and please come back for more. I just made my first Commander Month post and I was hoping for some feedback, which is better the Q and A format of the latest post, or the style I used before? THIS MONTH ON OVERLOOKEDMTG After an extremely long break, I am pleased to say that I am back to keep sharing the best of the unused with all of you. Over the course of the next month I will be bringing you some of my personal favorite EDH Generals. WHAT IS EDH? In the EDH format all decks are 100 card singleton (you may only have one copy of each card in your deck other than basic lands), and that every deck has one General. A General is any legendary creature, barring a small banned list, that "leads" your deck, and a deck may only include colors that are included in your General's color identity. This month will be the overlooked generals that I feel could see some amazing play, but sadly don't. If you disagree with some of my choices then please remember that EDH Commander is, at its heart and soul, a format for FUN, and that is the main deciding factor as to why I will be choosing the cards I choose. Hello everyone, I apologize to those who follow me, but I have been on a long hiatus from posting; however, I will now be posting again, so keep checking in for more overlooked Magic: the Gathering.

Overlooked Card of the Day: Mindshrieker Average price on tcgplayer.com ($0.34) Playability Rating: 9.5/10 Why it is Good: Mindshrieker is a 1/1 with flying for a converted mana cost of two, so that is perfectly reasonable; however, it is one of the strongest turn two drops that I know of. For two mana Mindshrieker puts the top card of any players library into their graveyard, so that's reasonable, but it also get +X/+X where X is the card's converted mana cost, and you can do it as many times as you want. This card provides you, under the right circumstances, the possibility of a turn three flier with an 8/8 body or higher (again depending on who you are playing and if they have high CMC cards), and after that you can do it for as much mana as you can spend so it is constantly growing. My Thoughts: This card is one of my favorites from Innistrad for a lot of reasons, but mainly its ability to win games. On turn two you can have a creature with the potential to grow large enough to win games before your opponents can even get large creatures out. The potential of this card lies partially within luck; however, on turn three you have a strong chance of having a 4/4 or higher creature with flying. I don't know what else to really say about this card, I love the flavor, the power, and how well it fits what Innistrad was all about, and I sincerely hope that we see a reprint of this in Shadows Over Innistrad next year.

Overlooked Card of the Day: Herald of Leshrac Average price on tcgplayer.com ($1.42) My Rating: 8/10 Why it is Good: At 7 mana this is a late game drop that allows you to have a growing creature, which you will eventually have to sacrifice, but you get to slow down or stop your opponents from being able to play large spells while you can use their lands to play yours. Though not a good card when it first enters the battlefield, this card can make a large impact on the board, and may possibly allow you to play two or three large spells each turn. My Thoughts: I think that this card has a great flavor, and along with it some strong power to back it up. Coming in as a 2/4 with flying isn't too good, but it has the potential to grow to an 8/10 or more before you have to sacrifice it, and during that time you will have a large board advantage due to a much larger number of lands than your opponent(s). All in all I think that this card would play well in almost any black deck; however it is exponentially better in games with more than two people, and that it could potentially make a large impact on your gameplay.
