STS-31 on Approach

Low angle view of the Space Shuttle Discovery as it approaches for landing on a concrete runway at Edwards Air Force Base to complete a highly successful five-day mission. It was a long awaited Earth orbital flight during which the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) was deployed in orbit. Discovery's wheels came to a complete stop at 6:51:00 a.m. (PDT), April 29, 1990. The landing gear was deployed just moments after this frame was exposed. Inside the spacecraft for STS-31 were astronauts Loren J. Shriver, Charles F. Bolden, Bruce McCandless II, Kathryn D. Sullivan and Steven A. Hawley.

March 8th, 2001 - The crew of STS-102 launch with Expedition 2 for the International Space Station aboard OV-103 Discovery, resupplying the station and relieving the ISS’ first crew, Expedition 1. Two spacewalks were conducted during STS-102.

Mission crew consisted of Astronauts James Wetherbee, James Kelly, Andrew Thomas, Paul Richards, with James Voss, Susan Helms and Cosmonaut Yury V. Usachev coming aboard the ISS as Expedition 2. 

Expedition 1, which came home aboard Discovery consisted of William Shepherd and Cosmonauts Yuri Gidzenko and Sergei Krikalev.

"After its Rotational Service Structure is rolled back, the Space Shuttle Discovery awaits the dawn of day on its scheduled day of launch on mission STS-95 at Launch Pad 39B. Liftoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Oct. 29. The STS-95 mission is expected to last almost 9 days, with a landing at KSC at 11:49 a.m. EST on Nov. 7."
