#StarTrekDiscovery kicked off a new era of #StarTrek TV series on Paramount+, but the divisive five-season saga was hampered by the show's title.
What's in a name?
I'm about to watch Star Trek: Discovery 5x10 "Life, Itself"
I'm about to watch Star Trek: Discovery 5x09 "Lagrange Point"
Star Trek: Discovery 5x08 "Labyrinths"

Another mild adventure for the captain and her ex-boyfriend. This time they are in a space library. It occurs to me how self-centred, smug and unpleasant this crew is. Greeted by the librarian (a really good Elena Juatco) they twice shush her–and do some eye-rolling–when she tries to give them a welcoming spiel. They display no reverence or awe towards the Archive (an amazing idea). Instead, Burnham, Booker and the others are only interested in things that pertain to themselves directly. They’re just jerks with no manners, right? Maybe, it’s a generational thing. I’m 55 and I respect and admire all the other Trek crews. I would be proud to work with people like that. These young assholes? Not so much. In the end, Burnham learns a very basic lesson about herself and is thus deemed worthy of protecting what the Progenitors left behind. Cringe. On the plus side, the visuals were great and the Eve Harlow scenes were good. Honestly, the whole thing just felt like filler to pad the season’s weak arc out to 10 episodes. 6/10

#StarTrekDiscovery did something no other #StarTrek series has, and left a legacy that kept the franchise alive and vibrant for a decade.
Two versions of Star Trek: Discovery, one destiny.
Star Trek: Discovery 5x07 "Erigah"

I want to like this show but it bugs me that the crew seem like incompetent, overly-emotional teenagers most of the time. They are nothing like the professional crews on other TREK ships. In this episode, Rayner can’t control his feelings when the Breen show up (for Moll and L'ak), Tilly tries to flee the ship during the crisis, Adira can’t do basic tasks unless receiving constant praise, and Stamets needs the help of the captain’s ex-boyfriend to do his job. The way the T'Rina, Vance and Burnham dealt with the Breen was perplexing. The whole standoff lacked tension. It all felt like filler to pad the season’s arc to 10 episodes. 6/10
