Keep Children Reading the whole summer
As a child, meant summer to me more time to read. I know that sounds extremely boring, but I had a fascination with books. They took me on a new adventure each new story that I started and I was addicted early. As much as I loved being out there, I loved to read even more. I would sit out on my lawn chair, or in a tree and read until my eyes hurt. I would ask my aunt to take me to the local library and would check out as many books as I could bear and realistic reading of the time, I could lend books. Most children do not have love for reading as I did growing up, but there are many family-friendly reading program available for young people to keep kids reading all summer. I think the basic reading in your home is a great way to encourage children to read. I started young with my children, read to them as often as possible. I have books in the bedroom, bathroom, in your car, you name it .... There are books.I think children learn from their models. Since I showed them that reading can be fun, they are eager to learn to read and read on their own. If I have time to kill, I take a book together, as well as books for my children. My son has been learning to read in the last year and doing quite well. He is definitely keen. I have taken the opportunity to write him up for local reading programs to keep him excited about summer. These opportunities are endless.Generally when I read (steal time from cooking or cleaning), my children ask me why I have laughed. Many times, I recognize also some TIME-bit of information I have learned with my husband or my children. They see that I learn by reading, so they want to participate. I take them to the library every two weeks so they can experience picking out their books and actually read them. Often, I find my oldest son in a corner reading quietly or even tell stories with his brother. Bookworm in me always smile at those keepsake moments. To continue to encourage a love of reading in my family, I have used several ways. The first is Target's reading program Ready, sit, read! This encourages families to participate in reading, offers book reviews, reading tips, club benefits and can be attended alone or with other families. The site shares activities to participate in after reading a book, to integrate materials with crafts and other activities. The site allows parents to browse through the parent material, sign up for their newsletter, and print coupons to use in your local Target store. In the Target is Rif.org also sponsors a reading program. Based on your child's age, you can register them and record their reading time from May to August meeting their reading hours and also win a gift card at Target. This is a fun way to keep kids motivated to read. The site is very child friendly, has colorful graphics, and will keep kids coming back to this page. As a child, log their hours for reading in the reading club, is a rocket waiting for more time to be seen and counting down for the children to complete a certain amount of hours (based on their age and reading level). My son is excited, and reminds me to make sure that his books are logged. Most local bookstores also keep the story-time dates in summer, which often includes crafts. I am often tempted to buy books through these vendors, but I choose to participate in the local library's story time, which is free and has the same benefits. By exposing children to these activities, they generally find them enjoyable (and before you know it will ask for more). Pizza anyone? Book-It is a very friendly also for the children by Pizza Hut. Generally, this is going through a school or another local organization, but more information about subscriptions can be located via their website. Each month, a child receives a coupon that must be filled out with three books. When this is finished, the children redeem the coupon for a free personal pan pizza. They get stickers for each completed coupon and at the end of the year will receive a certificate. This motivated me to read a child and was much more rewarding than the book reports.Learning can be fun and the programs offered for children can be rewarding, fun and enjoyable. There are many other programs out there, but these are the ones I know and has chosen to use in my home. Happy reading.

He Man / She Ra: A Christmas Special
Over the years, cartoons have provided the material for some topics very touching. The 1980 (and earlier) were a less politically correct time for the company and as such allowed for Christmas to be celebrated by our beloved characters. Although perhaps the most famous of these is the specialty of Charlie Brown Christmas, He-Man and She-Ra collaborated in 1985 to provide 45 minutes of pure joy holiday. The plot involves the stowage on board always mischievous Orko Man-At-Arms spy satellite 'and accidentally launched into space. For reasons never fully explained, it winds up crash landing on planet earth is just before Christmas. Upon his arrival, he met two young sons in the process of cutting a pine tree to use as their Christmas tree. When he returns to Eternia with exposed beams, the children are Orko and end up bringing the holiday spirit with them in the process. The hilarity is manifested when Skeletor begins to get some 'spirit of Christmas itself. This event coincides with the period when Filmation Hordak became the villain of the show both real and Skeletor has become basically a comic really cool looking. One way or another, the formula simply works. And unlike Charlie Brown special equipment referred to above, the He-Man She-Ra Christmas Special is actually less to do with vacations for themselves and more to do with a kidnapping escapade with whom and Skeletor Hordak start competing each other to earn the respect of Horde Prime. In addition, as mentioned before, the execution time for the feature is about 45 minutes (about that of two episodes back to back standard). Do not mistake this for an excuse to overlook this gem as it is really a piece intregal anyone BCI / Masters of the Universe collection. As always the case with BCI, attention to detail in the package is second to nessuno.Il book is again in color and is loaded with cool facts and history and once again slips BCI 2 Collector's art cards in the package: This time by comic artists Phil Jimenez and David Mack. If this is not enough to justify picking up this gem, the special features included on this disc is sure. Again BCI simply raises the bar on what is believed possible in terms of shedding light on behind the scenes of the creative process of assembly of He-Man / She-Ra legacy. This time we are treated to the documentary features two brand new (BCI tracked as everyone involved is truly worthy of a documentary itself). The first, public holidays and morale of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is an excellent series of interviews with the show's writers, artists and producers as regards the issues and lessons packed into each program and how the tradition started . The second piece (my favorite of the two) is entitled Heroes and Villains of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. This time we heard from the same heterogeneous group in the first section that is only now entering their favorite heroes and villains and what made them tick. Kingdom, both of the triumph of actually run-time presentation of the functionality (with about 70 minutes). Very interesting stuff! Finally, fans are treated to the usual question of BCI that has earned a reputation for their collections featured: A new video "I have power," a montage of moral-tag at the end of each show, character profiles, curiosity and fun facts, and the complete screenplay Christmas special on DVD-Rom. Another nice little collection from a company that leaves no stone unturned when it comes to He-Man universe.
