Zebby’s Zoo
@outoftheinkwell submitted: Howdy!
I discovered this little slice of weird in 2013, at the tail end of my sophomore year of high school. I’ve always had a fascination with children’s television in this sort of pre-K vein. Months earlier, I had even been led to discover some other very odd and slightly obscure things, including Shining Time Station, which I feel like could have an entry all on its own.
Nothing could have prepared me for the experience that Zebby’s Zoo would give me, though.

I mean… how does one even break this down? The clip art intro? The budget costume characters and puppets? The weird basement dance party? THE JOKE SEGMENT WHERE THE MONKEY TAPS THE ZEBRA’S ASS???Â
At least the music is kind of good??
Okay, this actually unlocked a memory for me, because my college roommate had managed to stumble upon Zebby’s Zoo and somehow I forgot about it and never put it on this blog. It belongs here, thank you!
(Also, I grew up with Shining Time Station! For some reason they thought they had to frame the Thomas and Friends stories as part of a bigger narrative when they brought them to the US and that’s what that was. Thomas and the Magic Railroad is more or less the Shining Time Station movie, and 90% of what I know about said film is Strasburg Rail Road’s involvement in it.)
