   “ Maybe we’re all criminals, and this is just the scene of the crime. “

It was said casually enough, accompanied by a nonchalant shrug of Riley’s shoulders.  In honesty, though, there couldn’t be a sentence more loaded with irony.  Being in a place as peaceful as Pelican Town was still unsettling, even after a couple of months.  Sure, he was able to run without needing to put Portia on a leash, but there were so many...strange factors that came with the move.  Factors that he just seemed to keep stumbling into.  A wizard.  A strange thing that had been reported lurking in the sewers.  Just taking a scan through the library left him with enough beginnings for a good story.  Suddenly the mysteries of JoJa seemed to shrivel in comparison.  

Where would he start?  Well, considering the wizard never answered his door when Riley knocked, the answer had to be families with long-standing roots in the town.  The Fischer farm seemed a decent candidate.  ( Hopefully the bike ride so out of the way would be awarded with some priceless sort of insight. )

   Autumn loved the sound of rain on the roof.  The library was rather deserted because of it, which she didn’t mind.  She knew for a fact that a certain journalist was still fast asleep in the saloon cellar, probably joined by a certain greyhound.  The only thing she’d change about today was that she’d be curled up somewhere with a book instead of watching the front desk for Gunther.

Just as she was considering finding a book for that purpose, the door to the library opened.  Autumn blinked at the short figure in the doorway, and winced at the thunderclap that soon followed.
