4. do you like your name? Ā is there another name you think would fit you better?
I do! I love my name, actually, and think it suits me really well. I grew up knowing that I was almost named Wendy Rae, and although I like that name just fine, it never felt like me. So Iāve always been grateful for the fact that my mom was almost two weeks past her due date (sorry, mom!) and my dad felt sorry for her and told her they could name me Bethany, which was the name my mom really liked.Ā
Bonus story about my URL: when I was very little, I was always called Beth. I always knew I felt more like a Bethany than a Beth (and also was tired of explaining that my name was Bethany, actually, not Elizabeth), but never had much luck getting people to call me Bethany. Then in 4th grade, I transferred to a different school, and right from the start I introduced myself as Bethany and wrote Bethany on all my homework, and eventually even people whoād known me since birth got with the program, and now I am Bethany to pretty much everyone. Except my dad and my brother; they both still call me Beth sometimes.
5. do you think of yourself as a human being or a human doing? do you identify yourself by the things you do?
Uh. I donāt think Iāve ever considered this before? I guess I think of myself as a human being. Iām more of a thinker than a doer, honestly. I probably identify myself by the things I think and read and believe more than by what I do. Ā
Iām not a huge outdoors person, although I donāt mind being outdoors as long as itās not super hot and/or humid. In the height of summertime Iām perfectly happy staying indoors where thereās A/C. That said, I definitely notice that if I donāt get outside for a couple of days, it affects my mood negatively. So...I guess the answer is, both. :-)
Yes! I took Suzuki method piano lessons for ten years when I was growing up. I also studied violin for five years, played flute in my grade/middle school band for four years and then took a couple years of flute lessons, and took voice lessons and sang in various choirs. Iām totally amateur; I didnāt study music at university or anything, and most of my singing in front of other people has been at church or in the car. But Iām so grateful for all the years of music lessons, and aside from the musical skills and knowledge I gained, I also learned a lot about discipline and learned to perform and speak in front of other people without fear. And music will always be a big part of my life, even though I rarely play instruments anymore. (I do sing ALL the time, though. You know that person who walks around the grocery store unselfconsciously singing along with the radio? That person is me, and Iām usually not even aware Iām doing it.)
