For the Worldbuilding Wednesday Friday: From part 1, 7 and 16?
And from part 2, maybe l?
7. Share a fat dragon you would describe as shy!
I'll go with my boy Tildr! My lair's trashman and junk enthusiast...Most dragons would just say he's chill, helpful, agreeable, etc. but he has pretty bad social anxiety and just tends to keep quiet and out of sight for the most part. He usually wears that skull mask to hide his face when he's out in front of others for his trash duties .
16. Share a fat dragon with a disability!
And here's Cosmea! one of my newest dragons I'm def immediately obsessed with haha He is deaf and has flashy arcane magic that he uses to put on light shows! ...and thanks to his new friend Ploof the fireworks technician these shows are now extra explosive. tbh I can't find much info at all about Deaf people's experiences with fireworks but I imagine he does enjoy the vibrations to some extent..but mostly he just likes getting to show off his magic in a very attention-drawing way gfdgdf
Pick a fat dragon in your lair and describe: l. Their goals/dreams?
I'll pick Otisco! They're just 16 years old, grew up in Florabrisa's biggest farming family and the youngest of their generation (though they do have a little nephew now, Thatch!) and there's definitely a bit of pressure to continue their family's legacy...but they are more interested in other pursuits and dream of attending a university to study fashion and maybe make a name for themself as a clothing designer! Most of the best universities seem to be in Light, so they're hoping to go there some day, though the idea of actually leaving Florabrisa is still a bit scary and they haven't quite brought up their plans to their parents yet but...some day soon, maybe!
thank you so much for the ask and happy fat dragon friday!!!
Slowly making my way through the farm family... here is Otisco! A teenage pearlcatcher who's less social than most of their family and often has their head buried in a book. They hope to study literature at a university when they're a little older. They take after their fashion-loving father a bit, though far less showy in their taste haha
I’ve mentioned my mauve/mauve project and I did finally get all the dragons I wanted, so i think it’s time to talk a little about them :D I’d been imagining them as a big farming family within Florabrisa so I’m excited to see them all starting to come together!
First we have Videlicet (Viz for short), an old fae who is considered the matriarch of the family! Viz has always been close to nature and enjoying the fruits of her labor. The snapper is Lodico, Viz’s twin sister! Lodico was never very interested in rigorous farming work, preferring going into education and studying in different parts of Sornieth. Despite their different lives, Viz and Lodico always remained close, Lodico never staying far from Viz for too long. Viz never had kids of her own, but Lodico had a few and Viz played a large role in raising them, making sure they at least had a chance to be part of the farming legacy Viz wanted haha
Selkirk the obelisk is Lodico’s youngest child! Selkirk isn’t 100% sure what they want in life yet, but they love Florabrisa and are happy helping their aunt around the farm for now. I’m not 100% sure about the status of Lodico’s other kids (Pompey and Metto). I actually have them still but since I just used them purely to breed the dragons I wanted I never got attached to them and don’t really need them but can’t quite bring myself to let them become fodder either sdgfd we’ll see what happens.
and then next we have Otisco (pearlcatcher) and Harmony (tundra)! Lodico’s grandkids through Metto. They are farmers though I think Harmony is a lot more into it than Otsico who might take more after Lodico haha
and lastly we have Pompey’s triplets - Scriba (obelisk), Scio, and Albion (tundras)! I’ve got Scriba all done, but haven’t figured out what I wanna do with the tundras yet. Scio got Opal from his mom which was a cool surprise! Their other genes are all up in the air right now though gsfdg I only wanted one Crocodile/Mauve/Mauve so it figures after a few failed nests, three would hatch at once omggg
also it’s official. i have decided Otisco and Hotsocks are dating so now i have every possible combo of mirror/pearlcatcher couples haha. pearlcatchers and mirrors were just made for each other i guess!
featuring the Prim (she/her) and Proper (she/her), Myosotis (she/her) and Sappho (she/her), Charon (they/he) and Baileya (they/them), and now Otisco (they/them) and Hotsocks (she/they)!

Wonky Wednesday: Town of Otisco
Welcome back to Wonky Wednesday. Each week I do a deep dive into the election and registration data that makes up the electoral landscape of our home, Onondaga County. I hope by looking into this data we can glean that this everchanging county is not monolithic as once thought and competition for Democrats, and all registrations, can be found everywhere. This week I investigate the Town of Otisco.
The Town of Otisco sits just south of the Town of Onondaga near the center bottom of our County. There are no established villages in Otisco nor are there any defined suburban areas. This is mostly an agricultural rural town with some clusters of housing along Otisco Lake which may not necessarily be full time residential properties. It is also one of the few towns that are wholly located in a County Legislative District (6) which is currently represented by Julie Abbott-Keenan (R). There are two election districts that basically split the town into western and eastern halves
The overall population of the town of Otisco is very small. It is the second smallest town in terms of voter population in our County. How small is it? It is smaller than 16 of the 19 Wards inside the City of Syracuse in terms of registered voters. This makes it the 5th smallest political subdivision in Onondaga County. And it doesn’t look like the population is increasing either. Normal voter registration rises in the 2020 election appear but it is not likely a long term trend population trend. It is more likely a result of the normal registration rates rising during Presidential years.
The current registration of the Town of Otisco shows a solidly GOP dominated town. Republicans make up 45% of the town with Democrats at 23%. Non-enrolled (BLK) voters outnumber Democrats with 25%. The two Election Districts are not quite equal in size. ED 2 is smaller in area but has more of the housing developments as it is the western portion of the town near the lake. ED 1 is the more agrarian eastern portion of town.
The partisan population in this small town has been relatively stable since 2009. The GOP has remained at the same level nearly doubling the Democratic enrollment. Democrats have had a mini surge since 2016 but it is not even enough to overtake the Non-enrolled. Finally the non-enrolled has also remained stable just outnumbering the GOP.
The election districts in Otisco are relatively similar in terms of partisan enrollment as well. ED 1 the GOP doubles the Democrat enrollment. ED 2 is a little less GOP dominant but not by much. However what little difference there is doesn’t really matter as every elected office in this town runs town wide. In fact if the election district sizes were ever to be raised Otisco might be a town where we consider only having one election district in it.
The significant six races we are looking at really drives home the fact that this is as strong a GOP town as it gets. In 2019 all three races, County Executive, County Clerk, and County Comptroller the GOP candidate crushed the opposition. In fact Beadnell and Dell doubled up their opponents while McMahon failed to do that, barely. In 2020 in a heavy Democratic year the GOP candidates had double digit wins in each race. Only Joe Biden could crack 40% in this town. Democrats only hope of winning in this area is to connect with non-enrolled voters, form a coalition, and hope for a local issue to rally around.
The Town of Otisco Democrats nominates their candidates by caucus. For such a small town Otisco actually has a good deal of races up this year. They will elect Supervisor, Clerk, three Town Councilors, Highway Superintendent, and tax assessors. If you are interested in any of these positions contact Otisco Democratic Town Chair Toby Shelley at [email protected]
