My masculinity is something I simply call "other."
I didn't grow up masculine. It's something I had to adopt into my identity and mold into shape to fit me. But as I grew older and realized I'm trans, I learned that society makes two assumptions: Masculinity is either seen as something tied to the binary or it's something people see as nonconforming. I experience neither of these things, and so I sort my masculinity into the category of "other."
It's not "other than myself." I still value masculinity even though I have a weird love-hate relationship with it. It's something I see as "other than the norm." It's not anything like binary masculinity, cis masculinity, or the type of nonconforming masculinity that women experience. It's other.
