Oso Oso - Basking in the Glow⁠ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠ @osoosoband #osoosoband #osooso #emo #emopop #powerpop #indiepop #indierock #longbeach #ny #longbeachny⁠ @triplecrownrec ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠ I have really, really gotten into the newest Oso Oso album, though it was a little bit of a gear shift from the Yunahon Mixtape, the album that got me clinically invested in this solo project by Jade Lilitri. For those of you out of the loop, Oso Oso is making some of the most catchy and perfectly sized emo pop songs since the golden days of Saves the Day and the Get Up Kids. They're adjacent to The Hotelier, but err on the side of classic power pop chord progressions and songwriting style. The Yunahon Mixtape transported me back to my first year of college and how exciting it was to discover albums like StD - Through Being Cool. Basking in the Glow is much softer, much more introspective, and more akin to the newer waves of emo revival. It's a gorgeous record and further proof that Jade is one of the rare, near flawless songwriters of our time and frankly it may be best that his songwriting brilliance is still very DIY and indie because we know how major labels tend to seek and destroy this kind of elemental magic when they find it. I'd be happy to see Oso Oso stay just under their radar and continue being an absolute titan of indie pop without any of the over-produced and made for minivan commercials nonsense that have plagued their peers historically. If you're looking for a great recreational sadness end-of-summer soundtrack, you just found it. Long Beach, NY band, oso oso, released their junior album “the yunahon mixtape” https://osoosoband.bandcamp.com on January 13th at 4:20pm (lol). To put it in simple terms, this album is really really great.  It takes the band’s sound in a completely different direction from the two previous albums, but it pays off and displays a lot of growth and maturity.  This is the third release from the band.  Their first release was a 7 track self-titled release under the name osoosooso https://open.spotify.com/album/0D822hEcG3T2hbcFtLATO6 and their second release was an 11 track record entitled “Real Stories of True People, Who Kind of Looked Like Monsters...” https://open.spotify.com/album/4qLbVwygJvKnVBgzEeYbgC under the revamped name oso oso.  This album comes as a complete surprise to most as it was not promoted aside from a tweet posted the days before the release from the band https://twitter.com/osoosoband/status/819615807298818048.  The heart and soul of the band is the singer and guitarist, Jade Lilitri, former frontman of the well respected punk outfit, State Lines https://open.spotify.com/artist/1NVhXp8Fb1NmqkCRompqT2.  My favorite tracks off the records so far are reindeer games, the bearer of the truths, shoes (the sneaker song), the plant mouth, and out of the blue.  Please listen, share, and support oso oso if you like what you hear!  Their album is posted on bandcamp for pay what you want (link in first sentence of article) and it should be up on streaming services within the month according to tweets from oso oso.  Thanks for reading, I hope this helps someone find some music that they enjoy!
