Oscar Party Weekend - 2012 Oscars Poster
My brother has been throwing an Oscar Viewing Party for longer than I can remember (at least since the early 90s when he moved to Chicago), either at his home, or at his restaurant. Since 2005 I have been gifting him with a large Oscar poster of that yearās nominees.
Me and my little brother Tom first watched the entire Oscar broadcast back in 1973 (I was 11 and he was 9). We had just seen āThe Poseidon Adventureā and were excited to see one of the actresses nominated, and several special effects awards and somehow managed to win āBest Songā that year for āThereās Got to Be a Morning Afterā. Every year afterwards, we would watch the awards together, and even when we moved away from home, we would still call long distance to compare notes during or after the show.
Once again I returned to my brotherās party at his restaurant in Chicago. This year I broke with years of tradition and decided to do the poster in color, in a painterly style (mostly due to the movieĀ āThe Artistā this year being notably in black and white, and mostly silent). This is the poster for 2012 (honoring films from 2011), including Moneyball, The Help, The Artist, War Horse, Marilyn and Me and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
