i guess im doing a little intro?
after many years of procrastinating i finally started the conversion process with my local beit din and am feeling all kinds of ways abt it so i made a sideblog to put all my giyrut stuff and jumblr musings on
so! hi, im ella and im on the path to an orthodox jewish conversion.
i have sephardic ancestry but have a broken maternal line so here i am. i was actually raised xtian but had several crises of faith that led me to my local shule, where immediately i felt at home.
i was always very fascinated by judaism but didn't know all that much, and the more i learn, the more i fall in love with the rich history and tradition of this people.
i've chosen an orthodox beit din as that is the level of practice that speaks to me, but am fully accepting of all the ways people become part of the tribe and choose to practice.
anyway i think that's about it for now?
for orthodox converts or BTs: how did you decide you wanted to become orthodox? as i’m reconnecting with my jewish heritage and exploring conversion, i’m trying to decide whether the conservative or orthodox movement is right for me. i would also appreciate input from conservative converts

If you are orthodox, especially if you converted orthodox, I would love your insights into what it's like to live as an orthodox Jew and what (if relevant) it was like to convert orthodox. I think that, in light of many of the recent asks I've been getting, it would be good to put together a resource sheet. My goal is both to provide helpful information/personal insights, as well as be a reality check for many people.

Hi! I was wondering how long it took for people who converted to Orthodox Judaism. I heard it takes at least 2 years but I was wondering what peoples experiences were, thank you so much!

I suspect there may be some variation depending on the prospective convert’s FOR, such as their background (e.g. mixed marriage and converting to make Jewishness halachic, knowledge of Hebrew) and the community they're converting into. Respondents may want to consider including any factors that they think affected the time their conversion (or a friend/loved one’s conversion) took.

I just started studying for conversion (FOR orthodox) and really like my rabbi! But. Because I’m gay he sad that my conversion won’t be universally accepted (he is known as progressive on lgbt issues). Is this true that no “kosher” beit din will accept me if I’m honest about being gay? I worry about partial acceptance mainly for marriage, and like cooking for people reasons. don’t plan to make aliyah so mainly cahre about how Orthodox folks view a non rabbinate approved orthodox conversion
