It irritated as much as it intrigued, infuriated as much as it interested. But it was after she’d begun murmuring and the “Pod” device hovered a distance back that Caim’s attention was caught.
At first, he had expected her to further impose her unwanted, unneeded role as protector. His arms folded in a show of preemptive defiance. It seemed to mean little once 2B stopped in front of him. She’d been much closer than before. It had reminded him of that one dare he’d taken from a fellow soldier when drunk, “claiming” the android by licking her. That odd taste still laced the brand upon his tongue. Perhaps that had given her the wrong idea as she’d leaned in and returned that gesture against his face. It was not often that Caim was caught off guard, but his recovery had been a slight slower this once. It was already troublesome to understand her, but the intent— insulting as it ultimately was seen as— was rather clear.】
