could you tell me more about dragonbreaks from the fandom side? i read the uesp article and in game books about it, but i still dont quite understand the implications of them and what mechanic theyre trying to implement using them. is it like a timeline break where two separate things can happen?
kind of, like the standard interpretation is like
1) something happens that usually involves mortals Severely fucking with divine power, (like the Biggest one occurred when mortalsĀ attempted to changeĀ akatoshās fundamental nature basically)
2)Ā akatosh/linear time is unable to reconcile this,Ā andĀ ābreaksā, creatingĀ a period where linear time no longer functions, time is kind of unwoven into separate strands,Ā and the worlds rules start to fallĀ apart.
3) different, often contradictory events occur during this same period
4) the timeline fixes itselfĀ and linear time resumes, with divergent strands of time beingĀ all reconciled and woven into one.Ā
so for example, in one timeline of the break, mannimarco succeeds in becomingĀ a godĀ and is now the worm moon. inĀ another timeline he does notĀ and just remainsĀ a barefoot cave dwelling weirdo. when the dragonbreak ends, both remain trueĀ and now theres two mannimarcos
to be real, i think the concept was introduced to reconcile the multiple endings of daggerfall instead of deciding on oneĀ as canon,Ā but the concept exists now in lore unrelated to thatĀ and is pretty legitimate. its just kept veryĀ ambiguous,Ā and people in-universe debateĀ about whether its reallyĀ a Thing or not. soĀ any fandom understanding of it is like 50% interpretive
