Prologue: Imagine a world where you need to fight to survive. Almost like being stuck in a game of life and death. Where anything is a danger. Where anything could be a threat on your life. A world where you must have a sword on you at all times. Can you imagine it? Alex, Kate and Ari know what's it’s like to live in that world this is their story.

Ch.1    Alex lays on the grass with the slight cool of night blowing her hair a bit. She closed her eyes slightly but then opens them hearing a soft beautiful voice of a girl that Alex has been in love with since she was 14. Her name was Ari, well not really. Everyone called her Ari but her real name was Ariessa. Alex stood and walked over to the gate that separated her´s and Ari´s house. Ari looked out her window and blushed. She said something to her parents and she quickly came outside.She stood on the other side of the gate. She had a pink shawl over her porcelain shoulders and a white dress with light pink flats with a small open toed section. She had a sword strapped around her shoulder. Alex felt a little bad for not dressing well.Alex was wearing a black long sleeve that read All I need Are Minions. And black skinny jeans with converse high tops. Her sword hung loosely from her waist Sure it was cold but if Ari could risk the cold for Alex, so could she.

Alex said, “Hi.”

“Hey Alex.”

“So I don’t have to watch after Kate tonight or tomorrow so if you want you could sleep over and maybe finally go on that official date we had planned”

“Hmmm….sure let’s do it.”

Alex leans in to kiss Ari but a scream from Alex’s garden interrupted them. Ari jumps over the gate and runs to the garden with Alex. Kate was being held upside down by a man-eating plant. Once she saw Alex she screamed “Alex don’t look at my skirt!”

“I think you have bigger problems here.” Alex covered her eyes just to relax Kate a little.

“What do I do!” Kate yelled absolutely terrified.

“You already have everything you need to defeat it.”

“The power to believe in myself?”

“No! A sword! Stab it!”

    “Oh yeah!”

Kate pulled the sword from her waistband, cut the vine that was holding her leg as she was falling to solid ground, she stabbed the plant bringing it to it’s sad little end. She landed perfectly on her feet. Alex shook her head. And walked away with Ari.

    Alex sighs,“Sorry Ari I guess that overnight thing we had is out of the question. Let's set up a date for tomorrow  instead.” Kate frowns and sighs. She sat pulling her knees to her chest and began to cry softly. Kate had tried to show Alex how much she cares about her. It hasn’t been working. All Alex does is reject her love.

    As she cries her brother Jason came up and said “Well I can see you got your own problems so I’m just gonna go somewhere else where it isn’t surrounded by crying children...oh there's one now.”

“Aren’t you gonna ask me whats wrong?”

“No sorry sis I’m not gonna pull the pin on that grenade.”

“It's ok it’s not your fault.”

“Shit Kate don’t make me feel bad now.”

“But i wasn-”

“Jesus what’s wrong child!” Kate blinked. Twice.

Kate swept her hair out of her face and said, “Well it all started when I met Alex. She was 11 and I was 8. Me and her were best friends. I remember for my birthday we did crazy stuff. Like we had a sword fight with real swords oh and we had the crayon eating contest w-”

“Jesus you remember all that. All I remembered was what color crayon you thought tasted best”

“I liked the purple ones.”

“I know sis and the blue ones were too bitter.” Jason says in a mocking voice.”What is my life even”

Kate sighs and stands up. “Well mom said she was busy tonight so she wants us to stay with Alex overnight.”

“I thought Ari was staying over night with her? They are dating now.” Jason said. Jealousy boiled up inside Kate's small body. She clenched her small fists.

Jason realized his mistake. “Oh fu-”

    “They’re what?!”

    “Sis calm down.”

    “No I will not calm down Alex is mine! All mine!”

Kate ran over the Alex’s door knocking loudly. Alex was changed into a grey t-shirt and grey sweats that had the word hope in white letters running down the pant leg. Alex was rubbing her eyes. Kate had woken her up.

Alex yawns, “Hey Kate. What’s up?”

“My mom needs you to watch me and Jason again,tonight and tomorrow.Mainly me.”

“Again? Seriously?”

“Yeah. Why did you have company tonight?”

“I have plans tomorrow can’t Jason watch you tomorrow?”

“My mom doesn’t trust him you know this.”

“Fine you can stay overnight but you go where I’m going tomorrow just don’t bother me ok?”

“No problem.” Kate said smiling walking inside Alex’s home. Kate slept in the spare room next to Alex’s room. Kate loved the spare room except for the fact that the window gives you a perfect view of Ari’s house.

General: Bernard is a very salt of the earth guy. He has a hard time reading people and situations so he may sometimes come off as rude but he really loves people. He wants more than anything is to be a good father for his adopted daughter, Adeline. He is almost always stressed from running a store and trying to raise his daughter. He speaks with a thick southern accent and will use contractions frequently.
