(Before Horizons came out I had this story planned out but never wrote the whole thing)

Blue sat atop the hill where they had pitched their tent, watching their Pokémon as the twelve creatures frolicked in the fields below. It was cute how well they got along sometimes. Red had disappeared off to who knows where, like he did sometimes. Honestly, it was weirder if he had just sat still and watched as Blue cooked. Pika ran over, hopping up on the table and nuzzling against Blue’s hand.

“I know buddy, he’ll be back soon Pika.” Blue gently ran a hand over the Pokémon’s head, trying to calm him down in the absence of its trainer, “you don’t need to worry about him anyway, he’ll be fine.” Pika made a distressed sound but accepted that Red was going to do what Red was going to do and hopped down from the table. Blue understood Pika’s distress in a way, Red was strong, but he was also a bit stupid. Stupid as in if he would fall down a cliffside and sit there for over an hour instead of calling Blue of help, not stupid as in he wasn’t an intelligent man. Of course, Blue never had a real reason to worry about him, because Red was always one step behind where ever Blue was. If Blue was somewhere, Red was only expected to come trailing after him. Blue jumped as someone placed a hand on his shoulder and spun around, prepared to attack whoever it was with the ladle he was holding before realizing that it was Red.

Sorry He signed, almost dropping the giant pile of berries that he was carrying.

“What the hell Red?! What are you going to do with all of these?!”

You didn’t have any berries to make spicy curry, so I went and got some. Ah… so that’s why he had disappeared, there was always a reason for it. He wouldn’t just run off without a good reason.

“Red…” Blue couldn’t help let a sigh slip through his lips before he started laughing, “you could have just asked for more spice.”

Yeah, but I didn’t want to bother you. Red gently wrapped his arms around Blue’s slim waist, pulling him tight to him.

“It wouldn’t have been a bother, but get off me you idiot, you’re gonna ruin it.”

So picky.

“Yeah yeah, I’m picky and you need to go wash your hands.” He shoved Red towards the nearby stream, gesturing for him to wash up. As his boyfriend came back, Blue portioned out some out for the two of them, placing the rest of the giant pot on the ground for their Pokémon to enjoy.

Thank you for cooking Blue. He smiled gently as Red brushed a gentle hand against his own. I love you. And Blue loved the way he always carefully signed those words, purposefully, as if telling him that it was his choice to love him, and he would no matter what. Red loved him on purpose and he would never stop loving him as long as he lived.
