“Keeper of the Gate” final illustration. You may recognize her from my recent bloodhunter designs based on the D&D universe.
I always wanted to finalize the designs in telling their stories in some way. Thus, I’m planing on giving each one of the 4 characters a final illustration.
Rune is the result of a pact between her mother, a human spellcaster and a geni, and got one command burned into her mind – to protect the city as long as it’s walls stand.
Sadly, humans don’t last as long as stone, and after many battles she was left on a lonely watch, bound by her sires spell.
It has only been broken, when a group of bloodhunters found their way into the long dead city. And as a sign of her gratitude, she joined their ranks.
I would have told her story and shown more of the process much earlier, haven’t I done a cardinal mistake right at the beginning and was to embarrassed to show it.
I learned something new about color and light and couldn’t wait applying it, so I rushed the composition stage, which resulted in having to do some time costly adjustments later on in the process.
Lesson of the day - Have patience, and try to nail down as much as possible at the sketching stage. It can save you a lot of time.
