Delicious and indulgent glazed bittersweet orange twists with a hint of citrus and rich chocolate. Perfect for a sweet treat!
Ingredients: 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour. 1/4 cup granulated sugar. 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast. 1/2 tsp salt. 1/3 cup whole milk, warmed. 1/4 cup orange juice, freshly squeezed. 2 large eggs. 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted. 1 tsp vanilla extract. Zest of 1 orange. 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips. Vegetable oil for frying.
Instructions: In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together warm milk, orange juice, eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, and orange zest. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes or until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size. Roll out the dough into a 12x9-inch rectangle, then sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the surface. Fold the dough in half, covering the chocolate chips, and cut it into 12 strips. Twist each strip and place them on a baking sheet. Let them rest for 15 minutes. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350F 175C. Fry the twisted dough strips in batches until they turn golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels. Prepare a glaze by mixing powdered sugar and enough orange juice to make a thick, smooth glaze. Dip each twist into the glaze, letting excess drip off, and place them on a wire rack to set. Enjoy your Glazed Bittersweet Orange Twists!
