Beta is not his birth name. He remembers his birth name, but he chose another one because he doesn’t want to think about anything from his human life before he climbs Mt.Ebbott.

Beta climbed Mt.Ebbot wanting to prove his worth. Growing up he was always fascinated with the mountain and the kids that were said to have climbed it and gone missing—wondering if they went on fantastic adventures and slayed evil monsters.

He actually climbed the mountain not long after another child went missing as little as less than a decade before he was born—it was considered taboo to talk about it or the kid that went missing because the kid’s family was still alive and living in the same town as Beta.

He fascinated about escaping into the mountains and finding something, someone, better. Most of the time though, he fantasized about climbing the mountain and finding everyone that went missing and coming back to be celebrated and loved after an epic adventure. Maybe then his parents would look at him the way his friends’ parents look at them—with love.

I think he climbed the mountain on a dare—having been boasting about how he’d climb it one day for years and come back a hero, and the other kids dared him to.

If he wasn’t a chicken, he’d do it. He did it to prove his bravery, and in an attempt to find a reason for his parents to finally love him.
