You'd be hard pressed to find a Dream MORE worthy of being considered a god than this one. My own version of Dream has a lot of differences from the canon version, especially in terms of what he's willing to do. You'd find he's really detached from a lot of mortal concepts and maybe some mortal morals.

He's not afraid of his aura and what it does to people. He actively takes advantage of it and that’s one of the reasons he’s as strong as he is. He learned how to handle people who become infatuated with him to the point of being second nature. He presents this perfectly polished version of himself constantly and it keeps the common person hooked on him, and he will justify this to himself endlessly. Whatever it takes to be balanced with Nightmare.

Part of why Dream loves Cross so much is because he doesn’t judge him and provides him a safe space to stop pretending, and his feelings of quiet adoration help him to recharge after a long day of being “Dream, the guardian of positive emotions.” Cross makes him genuinely laugh and feel at home, like he could finally be himself, which is something very few have seen. The few who have are Killer, Ink, Blue, and Nightmare. His circle is tiny for someone so beloved.

So it’s funny to me to think that Ink might use such a sweet nickname for his partner. I love Drink, so I’m referring to Dream here. Coming from Ink, it sounds at least a little ironic, and at worst, maybe creepy. But on the other hand, if you think about it, he’s speaking literally. That is, he doesn’t have a soul of his own - his emotions are in paint vials - so in a relationship with almost anyone, the other person would be the one truly feeling for both of them. And the ability to feel, to have a soul, is what he desires most of all, so by addressing Dream as “my soul,” he’s literally saying that the guardian of positivity is the most desirable and valuable thing in the entire Multiverse to him, and even if Ink is not destined to - and cannot - achieve this, he will always reach out to him. But, fortunately, Dream is fine with that. As one of the guardians of emotions, he by definition feels more intensely, more deeply, and for longer, so as long as Ink consciously chooses him every time, Dream’s love will be enough for both of them. After all, what is love if not the choice to be there every time?
