I'm new to this stuff so forgive me if this is a lame question, but can you explain the difference between tarot decks and oracle decks? Like what they do, how to use them, etc.?
❤️Hi! First of all, there are no lame questions when it comes about learning something new. So don’t worry or feel ashamed, but ask away, my friend. I’ll always be happy to help, if I can.
I have some trouble answering this, because I’ve never used oracle decks. But I started to practice cartomancy using a deck that in Italy we call “Sybils”, which are what comes closest to oracle cards, I guess. And they do work in a different way than tarots, so I’ll use them as an example in order to answer your question.
🔮 differences between oracles and tarots 🔮
I must say that the ultimate purpose of tarots is not telling the future. This may go against popular beliefs, but the meaning of tarots revolves around the discovery of self. Tarots guide us in the journey of life, they help us understand where we stand and the direction towards we’re moving. The fact that we are able to predict specific events of our life thanks to them is just what I call a side effect. Tarots are very enigmatic and abstruse. They are hard to understand, the figures represented on each card is complex and full of references and links to esoteric knowledge. But it’s that kind of hermeticism that gets you understand and unveil the mystery beyond destiny and universe and life. It’s really hard to explain, mostly because of my not-very-good English, but I hope you got what I meant.
The Sybils work in a more specific way instead. Sybils in particular are considered “gossip-y”, which is a definition that I love because in the end that’s really what they are. I predicted love affairs, quarrels between roommates, and other silly things. So, for the way I see it, they are more like a funny little game, although I deeply believe in the accuracy of what they say.
As for the methods of reading, I don’t think there are significant differences between tarots’ spreads and oracles’ spreads, but that is just my humble opinion.
I hope I could be of any help!Lot of love to you. ❤️
