There is obviously a bias for some of the larger gifts - returning his Mother's amulet to him, gifting him Duncan's shield when it's found, and of course finding the Chalice in Ostagar and then gifting it to him for memory's sake (and that had better not be the same one in Weisshaupt, Bioware, but that's silly). These are some of his most prized possessions even ten, twenty, thirty years later for obvious reasons.

But what does the think of the smaller gifts, the ones that technically don't have any memories or sentimentality connected?

His favorites are the stone warrior and the runestone. the runestone because it was so pretty and was easy to slip into a pouch on his belt, and it soon became a worry stone for him, rubbing the back of the stone until it was nearly as shiny as the gold lettering on the front. Even the edges became worn down after a few years, reducing the small square piece into a smaller, round stone. It was lost during a battle sometime in the decades after the Blight, but the habit of keeping a worry stone in his pouch prevailed.

It may be surprising to discover, but Alistair is a huge fan of the dawns. He tends to sleep in if he's allowed so it's more rare for him to witness and proper dawn, but it's also on the horizon of his bedrooms windows and so the easiest, most comfortable sort of daily phenomenon he can occasionally witness.

It also helps that he used to be up every sunrise, either during his time training as a templar or when he was a warden, and especially in the short year with the Hero of Ferelden busy trying to save the kingdom. It was just... the time to be up either because of said training or because danger didn't sleep and it was time to be on the move, but it was perhaps the most peaceful time of any of those eras of his life and he grew to appreciate them.

I think the biggest lie Alistair tells himself that he almost believes is that there are those who are better suited to do what he does.

And that's not being conceited, nor does he completely believe it or he'd have given his position up a long time ago. But it's something he tells himself every time he has to make a decision for himself - there's a reason he used to defer those decisions, back when he did believe the lie. It helps him remember that the decisions he makes and the actions he takes - they have bigger consequences than others. That there is always a chain of events with a much farther reach than he can expect.

It also keeps him humble - more humble than he should probably be for a man in his position, but self-deprecation has always been his forte, even when he was a nobody.

Asking Alistair if he has a favorite cheese is like asking a mother if she has a favorite child. The answer is of course, but don't ask in front of the other children cheeses because he needs them all to love him and sit well with him so he can enjoy their company into retirement.

The truth is, there's a wide variety of Ferelden cheeses that he regular has served to him and he rarely learns their name but they're all quite delicious. He also fancies himself a nice, soft Orlesian cheese.

That said, there was one cheese of legend he's has the pleasure of sampling, and that was a wedge from the cheese wheel of the mighty Nug King, with whom he negotiated territory and trade alongside Orzammar and a number of other leaders during an expedition some years ago.

If he thought he could get away with it, he'd have run away with that cheese and never returned. The Nug King is lucky there was too much danger down there.

My favorite part of any Story of Seasons game: scolding dialogue for when you play with no regard to your farmer's health.

Barely any other farming sims have this optional dialogue, so its always a treat - it's why it's so much fun to visit in a hurricane or blizzard.
