Canāt believe Iāll be graduating in about a month. Anyway, Iāll be paying homage to Lost in the City by Edward P. Jones in regards to pg. 167 where it begins with describing how the next day is Friday.Ā
The next day was Wednesday, and Johannes was determined to visit his friend because it was raining out and the semester was coming to a close as finals were ending this week. He texted Mike before he entered the dorm after walking there from the nearby metro with no idea what was going to happen next.Ā
āSorry, but would you like something to eat? Itās disrespectful in my home country to not offer a friend anything to eat when meeting.ā Mike was eating takeout ramen and had opted to meet Johannes in the study area of his floor.Ā
āNo thanks, Iām fine.ā replied Johannes. āItās been a while since we last spoke and I wanted to ask what was going on.āĀ
āSure... Iām not going to finish this semester and Iām going on medical leave.āĀ
Johannes took a breath in shock before asking, āIs this due to your health issues or has something happened at home. Iām so sorry...āĀ
His friend looked down at his food and answered, āItās a mix of both. I really wish I could have stayed here a bit longer but I already spoke with the administration and Iāll be flying home tomorrow night.āĀ
āSo did something happen to Ashley? I saw on her Instagram that she flew back to Cincinnati last week?ā Johannes continued, reeling from the shock.Ā
āYeah⦠she left and didnāt even complete finals due to an emergency medical leave. I donāt think sheāll be coming back.āĀ
āSeriously? I didnāt know this was going on. Ever since Kendra and I had that falling out, I havenāt seen you or Ashley on campus that often.āĀ
āLook, Kendra is a complex person. I know you had your reasons for no longer wanting to associate with her after what happened...ā Mike went back to eating his now cooling food.Ā
āShe was hurting herself by bashing her head against the wall. I couldnāt help her so I reported her to the school and walked away.ā he said. Clearly frustrated about even mentioning her.Ā
āIām asking you to reconcile her again after I leave.ā muttered Mike.Ā
The nearby elevator door dinged and Johannes thought silently in case Kendra was on the same floor and sighed. He didnāt hear anyone walking towards the room to his relief. His friend continued to eat while Johannes checked the time on his phone.Ā
āIām not sacrificing my time to go out of my way to babysit her whenever something bad happens to her. She was drowning and I couldnāt save her otherwise she would pull me even deeper into the water.Ā And it is NOT my job to save someone who is drowning.ā he emphasized. āWeāre grown adults at this point and I hope you can understand why I cut her out of my life to take care of my own.ā
