As an adjunct to #OpenHouseMelbourne I looked through the back fence to see glimpses of #ParliamentHouse’s new MP’s accommodation: the Members’ Annexe Building by Peter Elliott Architecture, 2018 (at Parliament House) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0xq1_CniPE/?igshid=yb1yvrg4dzmf

Second #OpenHouseMelbourne visit on the way home: #ClarendonTerrace, 1856-57, designed by Osgood Pritchard as 3 houses disguised as a small palace. Its proposed demolition in 1977 prompted a public outcry: the state government granted money for the #NationalTrust to buy it; in turn they leased it in 1980 to the Robert Menzies Foundation conditional on restoration/repurposing. When I last visited the Foundation was still there & inside was a sad 80s office; now it’s a new women’s museum #HerPlace and the bones of the building are visible. Few exhibits but Gwen Watson’s ceramics are interesting. And the beautiful house next door is finally being worked on after decades of neglect! The weekend of the #LowRez #Meeniyan concert was also that of #OpenHouseMelbourne, so I was very glad to find two places on my way home! The #EastMelbourneSynagogue is Melbourne’s oldest, designed by Crouch & Wilson and opened in 1877. Galleries on three sides with a library upstairs. It’s the first synagogue I’ve ever been in and was so excited I forgot to photograph the 1883 facade.
