Jake Muirhead. Tempest (n.d.)
A lot has changed since I last posted.
I am now only 42 days away from getting jaw surgery and I am extremely nervous but super excited at the same time. When I last spoke with the surgeon he suggested upper jaw surgery to help correct the bite but at my last appointment with the orthodontist, he said I will probably need both done as this would give me the best result. I meet with my surgeon again on the 5th September for my first pre-op appointment then again on the 19th September with my surgery booked in for the following week.
I meet again with my orthodontist on the 25th August and I believe at this appointment I will be getting my surgical hooks added to my brace. I think at this point it will start to kick in that the surgery is taking place. It still kinda feels like a dream because it’s something I’ve waited almost 6 years for!
I have started collecting small bits and bobs for the surgery like custard and protein shakes but still have no idea what I am doing. I am hoping that my next appointment with the surgeon will give me a better idea of what to expect. I am so nervous for this but can’t wait to find out about the procedure and everything else involved.
The picture shows what my bite is like just now. I believe I have an open bite with a slight tilt on the right side but I may be wrong. The surgeon was talking that fast that I couldn’t understand what he was saying and I didn’t ask because I’m terrible at communicating.
If anyone has any advice then please send it my way. I need all the help I can get haha.
An open bite occurs when your upper and lower teeth don’t meet properly. There are different types and treatment options—learn more!
An open bite is a dental condition where the upper and lower teeth do not properly meet when the mouth is closed, leaving a visible gap. This misalignment can affect chewing, speech, and overall smile appearance. Modern orthodontic treatments such as braces and clear aligners help correct open bite by gradually guiding teeth into proper position, improving both function and aesthetics.
