SNEAK PEAK OF STRING THEORY CHAPTER 3 <3
"And if you’d been justifying that perhaps this was a fleeting act of kindness- she grabs your hand and drags you down the hallway with her.
You’re following her blindly—because all you could focus on was the sleek back of Shoko’s head; only slightly different from how she looked dragging you out of lecture halls, into clubs, into your first convention at Tokyo Big Sight. And you choke out, “You…you’d lecture me for it?”
“Yeah?” She gives you a semi-glance over her shoulder, “If you want, I could yell at you instead. Maybe that’ll scare off the creep at Men-Ya Aoi.”
You startle, “How do you know about the creep at Men-Ya Aoi?”
And that makes her look at you fully, one brow raised. “We eat there all the time? You always get the tonkotsu ramen and I get the spicy chashu?” And as the confusion grows on your face, she stops and stares. “Last week when we were there, that creep tried to sit next to you and you threw the gyoza plate at him?”
“O-oh.” As suspicion starts to creep into Shoko’s face- you’re hit with the sudden feeling that you didn’t want to close herself again. You didn’t want that warmth in her eyes to dim. You didn’t want her slight smile to slip off her face again. And so you answer, “Right—right.” Scratching nervously behind your neck, “I really didn’t get enough sleep last night.”
“I’ll say.” And then she’s dragging you down the pathway again, just as she did when you were younger. “C’mon now, don’t waste time.”
You breathe, “I won’t.”
Because you did throw a gyoza plate at that creep when he’d insisted on sitting next to you last week- you really did.
But it’s just that you’d been sitting alone."
