Wayfinder
A young Aqua found herself in the Masterâs library. There were many books lined up in tall bookshelves that lasted for what felt like miles. It seemed like it was possible to get lost in the sea of books.
While Terra wasnât much of a reader, Aqua felt like it was almost a part of her training. The more that she understood, the better she could become a Keyblade Master. There was a lot of information that was hidden in some of them, and she had read a lot of them. Most of them had information about other worlds, some that she couldnât believe were real. Perhaps it was because she had only ever been on the same world.
There was something different about the library that day. Or perhaps she was just remembering it differently. It was a fond memory of an idea that she had gotten to give her friend. Back in those days, Ven hadnât been around.
It had just been her and Terra. Most of their time was spent training together, and those days had been a lot simpler. They didnât have to worry as much about the Mark of Mastery exam because it felt so far away. Even though they were training for it, it felt like a distant dream. One that Aqua wanted, but one that didnât feel real yet.
All that felt real was her friendship to Terra.
That was when she ran across a book about charms made out of seashells she was struck with a brilliant idea. One that she wanted to do no matter what. It was a charm that meant that her and her friend would stay together no matter what.
If Aqua was filled with one thing, it was faith. She believed that no matter what happened, her friendship with Terra would last, no matter the circumstances.
Even though she had no seashells, she started to work on them with the materials that she did have. It was hard to find something as a substitute at first. Especially when she was so busy.
She wanted to make it a surprise, but it was hard when Terra would notice her sneaking off after training. Plus, she wasnât the best of liars. She swore that he was going to catch her in the act one day.
Finally, Terra asked her one day after they had finished training on the rings outdoors, âWhat are have you been doing these days? You always seem so busy.â
Aqua had paused at that not really knowing what to say in response. There were a million things that she could say, yet her mind blanked and she could only put a smile on her face as she attempted to fool him.
To be honest, despite that Terra was older, he always seemed to be a lot more gullible. It was as if he was willing to trust others a lot more than Aqua was. Not to say that Aqua wasnât trusting, it was just that she had a better sense of telling whether or not there was good intention behind a person or not.
âItâs a secret,â she finally decided with a smile, while Terra raised an eyebrow in response. With that said, she had zipped past him before Terra had much of a chance to do anything. She had always been faster than him, thankfully.
As she made her way back to her room, she found Master Eraqus waiting for her with a gentle smile on his face. She looked surprised to see him there, and he held out his hand.
âMaster Eraqus?â she started, and he looked at her with the same look in his eyes.
âI sensed that you wanted to make these,â he said, Â and it was a collection of materials in his hand, âI couldnât get any seashells, but this should suffice, correct?â
A slow smiled appeared on her face as she took the materials from him, and said, âThank you Master.â
âOf course Aqua,â he said, and she took the materials back to her room, and started to put together glass pieces in the form of a star.
It was a lot harder than she thought it would be. Her fingers were easily pricked when she tried to put the pieces together, and it was slow progress.
She was sure that Terra was starting to suspect something, when he noticed her slight flinch the first time she tried to hold her keyblade after having pricked it the night before.
After he had seen he had taken her hand and examined it. Her eyes went wide at the motion, and she felt her heart trip over itself for a moment since it was rare for the two to make contact with each other unless it was their keyblades slamming together.
âWhere did you get these?â he asked, and it was probably the first time that he had noticed something like that about her.
âFrom a project Iâm working on,â she supplied, and Terra raised an eyebrow in response.
âWhich would be?â
She gave him a wry smile as she pulled her hand away and shrugged, âYouâll see eventually. Itâs a gift that I donât want to spoil.â
Terraâs blue eyes examined her, and she felt herself start to feel like he was trying to figure it out with just a glance. It took all of her willpower not to glance away and instead smile at him, âYouâll find it soon enough.â
âI didnât see you as someone that would make things. Couldnât you just use magic?â Terra finally asked.
âW-what do you mean?â Aqua started and Terra gave a grin.
âThatâs so girly of you.â Terra supplied and Aqua left out a sound of annoyance.
âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â she said and he let out a laugh.
She felt comfortable around him like this. That was why she wanted to make him a gift, one that meant that no matter what happened to them, they would be connected forever. A friendship that was everlasting. A power that kept them together.
She could have only wished that those days could have lasted.
