It’s in the eyes. From behind, you can’t tell apart from his victim’s response. It’s the eyes that make Sonic eldritch. He’s never them himself, and isn’t scared of his brother, but his eyes… Tails’ not quite sure they started out as his. Most don’t know what he is. He’s the kind of guy no one ever believes they could be afraid of. That’s intentional. Not just because Sonic doesn’t like the idea, but because if they knew the effect might not be the same. Maybe people would prepare for it. Maybe they’d be afraid before ever giving him a chance. ‘There’s too much at stake’ Tails had explained to him after the first time he saw his brother become something else. Thus far, the fox has only seen the… hedgehog use his eyes when he’s in danger. Sonic is protective, whether people recognize it or not. Once, he found footage of one of the victims after and heard what they saw. Limbs lengthening, blackening, eyes and teeth beginning to darken and drip liquid he could only assume was blood. Snout lengthened and over-crowded with terrifyingly long sharp teeth as it warned against bothering Tails again. It’s not the exact same as the next time he manages to hear a victim’s experience. He has a feeling… if asked, Sonic himself wouldn’t even know how or why or what. So he focuses on the majority. The times his big brother checks in before bed, brings him cake from Amy’s house, or fights against bad guys by his side. He doesn’t need answers this time. Not this one.
