My March #1GAM game: Respawn
I was exceptionally unmotivated during March to do hobby gamedev - there was chrunchtime on my dayjob, and I got sick afterwards too. I had to really force myself to create a game this month. :(
And it show on the game too - it is based on an old idea of mine, but turned out to be not-that-good when implemented, and I don’t have to motivation to fix the design besides some weak attempts. :(
Anyway, it is a chain-reaction type game, where you have to clear the screen from monsters using limited number of explosions, and trying to create the longest chain reactions (the monsters are exploding when die).
The unique twists in the game, that there is some avoid type gameplay too, because your avatar is also on the screen. There are two forms for your avatar - the “living” form (the fairy), and the dead form (the angel). When the angel respawns there is an explosion, and the explosion radius is determined by how many enemies are near to the avatar when it is willingly dies. If a monster kills you, the explosion radius is miniscule.
So, basically you have to move your avatar near monsters, and click to die (turn to angel form) at the last moment possible. Then position the angel so when you respawn, the fiery rebirth starts a chain reaction.
Ohh, and when you die, the ground gets scarred - and you can’t respawn or willingly die on scarred ground, so the game automatically gets harder during play.
Kinda confusing written out, and just a bit clearer during gameplay - try it out if you are interested. :)
