My wife is absolutely the best. She made my birthday just perfect. 31 I see you. This last year was a huge year of growth, deconstruction, and learning. While I wouldn’t say 30 was my favorite year I will say 30 was my most fruitful year of growth from facing my own grief surrounding my mom and processing that, learning that you must place boundaries between you and people that openly mistreat you regardless if they’re your sibling, parent, etc., understanding that nothing justifies people mistreating you, accepting that I belong in this crazy rigorous doctorate program and I’m not here by chance, learning that love is patient and it takes time to fully learn to love yourself as you are RIGHT NOW and not completely wrapped up in whether or not you are swimming in all your own flaws and iniquities. But most importantly I’ve learned that love simply shows up in the most random places with the greatest people. And I know I’m not done processing, growing, and learning and I’m even more exciting for the what this next year will bring. I’m claiming blessings over every experience in year 31 even though I realized for the first time that 10 years ago I became legal to drink... where does the time go? . .
