will probably expand on this more when i’m not suffering from writer’s block but i find it so interesting how much professional and personal mix for ollie. malcolm seems to lack that boundary between professional and personal life because his life has become all work, he has no time to even HAVE a personal life (save for small little things like his niece’s drawings on the wall) and he is a self admitted husk of himself. any move he does for work, any insult is part of his job for him. ollie on the other hand, has work be his entire life and by consequence, makes any move he does for his job turn personal. there wasn’t any need to humiliate malcolm in the end, he was already going to get malcolm’s position but he just couldn’t help himself ?
also how fun is it that both malcolm and olly seem to have curly hair but they both either cut / gel it to get it to not be curly i don’t know something about the repression of the self in order to no longer be someone with any distinguishing characteristics of yourself and just a little husk and puppet for someone to be able to use because politics is just a big puppet show for the masses actually where you only get so many strings
anyway random ramble. i’ve finished the thick of it and think about it often but every single one of my thoughts is incoherent !
a triptych

I was getting my costume fitted and I heard “Where is he where is he!?” And Peter came bounding in, straight from filming as the Doctor. He took me onto the TARDIS and I watched. I sat in one of those canvas chairs that you get on film sets, and watched him be The Doctor - live in front of me. It was absolutely fantastic... a real treat.”
Chris Addison on his greeting onto the set of Doctor Who
I think people are missing the fact that Ollie showed up on Doctor Who. Hopefully he gets right in The Thick of It with the Doctor by the end of the season.
