I was in London today and you will all be amused and unsurprised to know that the Tommy Robinson flagshagger crowd were making themselves unpopular. Basically every single one of them was lurking outside every cheap pub getting shitfaced, waving flags in everyone's faces, blasting airhorns and hollering shit and also getting in the way of people who just wanted to watch the cup final, whom I suspect would otherwise have been sympathetic to them.
Props in particular to the TERF who had the Union Jack in purple, green and white and got yelled at for having a "woke flag" lmfao
wes streeting has resigned!

So, reform just won the local elections.
The absolute state of the UK cannot be understated. The country is already fucked, and will be fucked even more if (when) Reform wins the general elections. Imagine Farage as a leader. He'd probably make Starmer look heavenly in comparison.
no.
today morning i was all gung ho about writing a long rant about queen charlotte and its representations of british political history re. george iii and the years 1760 - 1763, but then i watched the last episode and listened to one too many girlboss type of speeches and it really occurred to me that this version of english history is just hamilton with british characteristics - and i mean it very specifically in the sense of referring to where british politics were at pre-brexit, with the tory-libdem coalition repositioning itself as essentially socially liberal but fiscally conservative against wastrel labour party etc. that is, leaving besides the fact that the entire construction of this show re. george iii as this kind of noble and science-driven king beset by an evil ableist encroaching parliament is actual 18th century tory propaganda. but the backwards imposition of modern racial politics onto the past and this framing of "our side" and "their side", with the opposition to the elevation of non-white peers from "their side" referring to the historical whigs (who again! i would like to say! were largely opposed to a) monarchical influence in parliament and b) historically tended towards liberal policies including re. greater laxity towards the colonies and the abolition of the slave trade and slavery), coupled with the sort of speeches about how equality is having a seat at the table all while the non-white lords and ladies command what looks like a heavily non-white servant class, is what elevates it into being 2010 - 2015 era tory party propaganda also. which is kind of insane. and then they end it with queen victoria hagiography which covers basically all 20th century tory nostalgia as well. all of it wrapped up in identity politics speak that frames all of this as racial progress and what not. real coup de grace for the tory party, if you think about it & also doesn't rly leave one with much to say meaningfully about the history aspect.
