Abby is Liv’s closest friend. Although you wouldn’t know from the lack of trust on full display in 501 and countless other times that I’m too tired to recount. But Abby goes by how she’s seen Liv operate. Due to the damage inflicted on Oivia, we know all too well her pattern of running when the heat gets too hot in her personal life. Especially where Fitz is is concerned. The conflict of doing the right thing or being with the man she loves is her daily struggle. How could we not expect Olivia to run when it’s leaked with pictures to the world that she is the President’s mistress? Her world is about to be turned upside down and inside out. Just like Aretha sang “A woman’s only human”. Sing it Retha!!! Old habits and comfort zones are not so easy to overcome. This revelation is completely overwhelming. I cannot fault her for going with the initial flight reflex. Let’s not forget that Liv has gone through a lot the past few months. She should be balled up rocking in a corner somewhere. Instead she is picking up the pieces and trying to move on. This is the first major test of her and Fitz’s newly established relationship. But what’s great about old habits and patterns is that they can be broken. I know that Olitzers have a disdain for Jake. It get it. I really really do. However, in the Motel 6 scene Olivia is communicating her true feelings. The fear. The shame. This situation is so out of control she needed to go outwards. She can no longer contain her innermost fears. Whether we like it or not there is a closeness and a bond between her and Jake. In that moment she needed to talk to someone not directly involved. But someone who knows the truth. She needed a sounding board. She can’t talk to Fitz because she’s not ready. She can’t talk to Abby because she lied to her face about the relationship. Rowan and Maya are the Devil and Beelzebub. Huck and Quinn are broken monsters who are dealing with their own craziness right now. Cyrus is outside the bubble. Harrison is taking a dirt nap. So, that only leaves Jake. I can say that in that moment I felt as though I was lying beside Liv and she was confiding in me. Honestly I don’t care who she talked to. It was a big step for her and I’m glad to see her take it. She has already chosen to stand in the light and not in the sun. Jake is no longer a threat to me keeping my dinner down. He’s just s tool. In more ways than one.

Fitz is willing to let Olivia go because he loves her too much to see her whole life implode for him. My hope is that with Liv publicly saying “Yes” to her relationship with him, it is the beginning of her loving Fitz too much to let him go back to Mellie. I can’t even imagine how many vomits it took for him to call Mellie, apologize and asked her to come back to the White House. I’ve thrown up 8374679 times and I’m only watching it.
