My Final Thoughts on 5x02 (taken from Shattering’s latest A/N...)
Due to reading Ballard related spoilers that has him still alive, I went into 5x02 in a pretty nasty mood and as the overall mediocre episode continued, that nasty mood became tinged with resignation, sadness, and bitterness. By all accounts, it looked like we had been bait and switched yet again. It looked like The Creator and her enablers had played us for fools and it wasn’t even winter yet. It looked like that Liv was running away and that she wouldn’t be back by the end of the episode. Then, it looked like she was running away and latching back onto fucking Ballard out of cowardice. Then, when it became clear that she didn’t have sex with his stupid opportunistic, bottom feeding, cheap liquor swilling ass again (thank God!), it looked like Fitz was going to pigeon holed into backing down and derailing the long overdue Mellitz Zombie coup de grace (and I’d say that Fitz and Mellie need a divorce, even if I didn’t ship Olitz so don’t even go there with me, Anon-Trolls and haters. I’m not in the mood!) and I was just so upset with the show and myself for sticking with it…until literally the last minute.
The episode was saved by that last minute. It went from a piece of shit, Mambo 123, ‘I give the fuck up on this bullshit show’ episode to a mediocre filler episode leading to good shit because…she did it, y’all! Olivia not only came back at 9:59 and 30 seconds, she made a long overdue breakthrough. She was honest. She stood up in front of a pressed Ballard, in front of all of those blood in the water reporters, in front of a conniving traitorous Abby (FDB to the end of time!), in front of an oh so bitter Cyrus, in front of a hopelessly deluded Mellie, in front of a shocked (and hopefully delighted) Fitz and said the one word that changes fucking everything between Olitz and in the overall SCANDAL-verse at long last: YES.
She said YES. She stopped running, stood her ground, and finally confirmed the open secret of her and Fitz being her and Fitz and that was DOPE AS HELL. And completely unexpected. That is how you plot twist. I went in expecting a rip-off and got a pleasant surprise. It was like getting a case of lima beans for a gift and finding 200 bucks plus a new laptop at the bottom of the box. It was the ultimate ‘Surprise, Bitch’ and ‘Surprise, Motherfucker’ gift and I am still ecstatic. Olitz aside, I’ve been aching for Liv to make some good steps forward in her character development and that ‘YES’ is the first of hopefully many. She’s changed her MO of running away, for settling for less and she’s ready to fight. The Fakelivia we’ve been looking at since Season 3-4 is gone and just like I’ve been wishing, my Olivia fucking Pope is back.
How long she’ll be back is anyone’s guess (including The Creator’s, it seems) and if she’ll truly stand her ground next week and beyond is a mystery but for now, I’m going to take this WIN for our Fixer, for our heroes, and cherish it in my Gladiating heart. Is it Thursday yet? Thursday needs to bring its ass on.
