An Open Letter to the Bravest Man I've Ever Known
Hey, Pops! I know it's kind of strange that I'm writing a letter for you. We aren’t those kinds of father-and-daughter relationships that are showy and clingy. You never showed us a variety of emotions, only the strong serious man we've always known. The past months were really tough for me and I know that it was tougher for you. Why? Because you have lost the love of your life and it was my mom, your wife.
I can feel that there were deep emotions going on into your mind and especially in your heart. I can see in your eyes the grief, the sadness, and the pain. There was something in you that I can't explain. Maybe, it's how you handle circumstances that will test your vulnerability.
Dad, it's okay to be vulnerable sometimes. All your life, you have been more than brave to face everything - the death of your parents and your wife. Don't be afraid to be fragile in times when needed. It's okay to cry your heart out. I'm telling you, it feels good. And, you need it. From all the pain you felt, it's time to let it all go, Dad, and we won’t judge.
Every night, I pray to God that He bless you with so much courage to express what your heart wants. You always keep all your problems inside you. You have always been selfish with what you think and feel. Dad, always know that we are here for you. You can always talk to us, tell every detail in your life, everything that makes you happy, sad, anxious, please. We are family, forever.
I might not tell you every day how much I love you and how proud I am to be the daughter of the bravest man ever but always remember that I love you as much as I love Mom. You inspired me to be the better version of myself. You motivate me to dream as high as I can. You loved me like I'm the most precious thing in the world after Mom. And, I am so thankful and grateful for that, every single day. Can't wait to see the same old smile Mom always gave you. I love you, Dad.
Love,
Chelsea P.
