On the side of the road freezing because apparently I have a coolant leak now
I think my parents finally have accepted that my car is on its last legs as far as staying together and functioning because they’re finally offering to take me to shop for a used car. This car is too expensive to keep functional at this point, and unsafe in a variety of ways.Mind you, my current car is 21, almost 22. All I really want is working headlights on both sides even if the ac or heat is on, doors that latch even when it’s cold, and a proper defrost function. All of which are inspired by various misadventures with my current car. Most recently, the interior dome lightbulb nearly overheated to the point where it could have burst due to an electrical malfunction and did actually let off sparks when I had to remove it to prevent both potential fire and a drained battery.
I just love when I go to get a flat tire fixed and the mechanic takes one look at the underside of my car and gives me a crazy look before going “This thing was on the road?!” 🙃
The TL;dr of the explanation was well we can’t replace the struts or suspension (both broken) cause it’s so rotted out down there you’d lose anything from the trunk back once we start removing parts, a body shop might be able to weld on some new metal to hold that part together but that’s probably more expensive than the car is worth to keep running. It’s a 21 year old car.
Adding windshield cleaning fluid should have been a 10 minute task, tops. But, no, not with my luck. The hood is stuck shut, the release lever does nothing. The release lever frickin' broke. I put the frickin' thing back together, it still won't do squat. I know it's a 20 year old car, but I check stuff under the hood frequently enough that this should NOT be happening.

The 280 needs a new carburetor (a bigger one, too), and the 300D's brake fluid leak is hopefully fixed. Cars are a pain.
Oakley’s left rear regulator took a shit yesterday and the part isn’t coming till the 12th at least and now i have to keep checking that the window hasn’t lost tension when it rains and dragging it up after every trip cause it falls down on the highway fml
Room for two? Still contemplating the idea of keeping the 280. It'd have to sit under the carport, as it leaks a lot, but it could be fun to have as a 'round town car. But, is paying the insurance worth it? Is not having a space to park the 300D in the shade worth it? And, once the Comet is running, it'll be living here. I'm not sure. Nothing is really moving on craigslist, and I've lowered the price way too low for my liking and still gotten no bites. I may get it inspected and bring it into Austin and see. Maybe I'll stick it out on the street with a for sale sign.
